Arizona Sports Betting Online
Arizona sports betting was signed into law by Governor Doug Ducey in April 2021. While the sportsbooks were legalized in the spring, they just launched in September, allowing Arizona residents to experience a full NFL betting season via online sportsbooks and brick-and-mortar locations. 10 licenses were granted to tribal casinos and eight towards sports organization venues. The state of Arizona has unleashed a variety of betting markets for the public to choose from, which will create high-profit revenue, particularly during the six-month NFL season.

The Arizona Department of Gaming has issued provisional licenses for the following sportsbooks. Many of Arizona’s tribal casinos were granted licenses, allowing them to open their own sportsbook. Account registration for users began on August 28th, with DraftKings, Caesars, and BetMGM comprising just a few of the online sportsbooks available via mobile apps.
Here’s a more thorough breakdown of the various sportsbooks operating in Arizona:
Barstool Sportsbook: Barstool has partnered with Penn National to enter the sports betting market. Penn National owns a 36 percent stake in Barstool Sports. The casino company opened its first Barstool-branded sportsbook in November at Ameristar Casino Resort in Black Hawk, Colorado. The first Barstool app was launched in Pennsylvania, and early reports have been very promising. Their online book entered Arizona on September 9th in a deal with Phoenix Raceway, one of NASCAR's main circuits. Barstool will also serve as the sponsor and broadcaster of the Arizona Bowl held in Tuscon at the end of this college football season.
Betfred Sports: A sportsbook based out of the United Kingdom, Betfred Sports made a deal with Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, which will operate at the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Betfred has numerous retail sportsbooks throughout the world, including their robust mobile sports betting app. First launching last year in Iowa and Colorado, Betfred Sports has expanded into other states such as Arizona, with plans to launch a retail sportsbook soon at the We-Ko-Pa Casino. For now, the mobile sportsbook is accessible for all Arizona residents 21 and up.
BetMGM Sportsbook: BetMGM is one of the eight retail sportsbooks currently operating in Arizona. It rebranded itself from PlayMGM and is now known simply as BetMGM, which can be found in several states, as it remains among the best in the sports betting market-share leaderboards. The Arizona Cardinals and Gila River Hotels & Casinos are the primary partners for the mobile launch of BetMGM, while a brick-and-mortar location containing a retail sportsbook at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona will soon be open to the public. This is the site of the Arizona Cardinals but the sportsbook also has plans to expand into three of Gila's properties as well.
BetRivers Arizona Sportsbook: Another licensed sportsbook that is now available to residents of Arizona is BetRivers. It offers a wide variety of betting options within its sportsbook on its site and mobile app, including several lucrative bonus promotions for new users or new deposit matches. Live betting and live streaming options, paired with a sleek, friendly interface, make this exclusive mobile and website sportsbook a fun site to check out and become a registered member.
Caesars Sportsbook: The acquisition of William Hill's US operations has launched Caesars fully into the sportsbook scene. Caesars sportsbook went live on September 9th and is now available to residents 21 years or older in Arizona. Caesars ranks among the best in the state for sports betting revenue, mainly due to its mobile sports betting app. Their deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks made this possible, as a retail sportsbook will be located next to Chase Field, which is where the Diamondbacks play their home games. The online betting platform is currently available to register and offers an expansive betting market to tap into.
DraftKings Sportsbook: One of the biggest names in the betting industry, DraftKings came to an agreed partnership with TPC Scottsdale. This has cemented plans for a retail sportsbook to be located on-site at TPC Scottsdale, which is one of the recurring stops on the PGA Tour circuit. Currently, DraftKings has DFS options and its online sportsbook available to Arizona residents.
FanDuel Sportsbook: Another titan of the gambling industry reached an agreement with the Phoenix Suns, as FanDuel has confirmed plans to implement a retail sportsbook at Footprint Center. While it already has its online site and mobile betting app available to the public, the site is best known for its early involvement in DFS, where it remains among the best sites for user experience and contest values and payouts.
Fubo Sportsbook: After reaching an agreement with the Ak-Chin tribe, Fubo Sportsbook has begun providing its online sportsbook to Arizona residents. Several generous promotion offers for new users make it an interesting sportsbook to peruse, as it contains college sports betting, as well as Moneyline, parlays, and more. Its ultimate goal as a sports-streaming service is to fuse sports streaming with online betting to enhance a bettor's experience, a function known as live-betting.
Golden Nugget Sportsbook: Golden Nugget recently signed an agreement with the Hualapai Tribe and is currently one of the sportsbooks engaged in ongoing review with the Arizona Department of Gaming to complete its license approval process. With a history of secure performance and using one of the best software platforms called 'SBTech', Golden Nugget has one of the nicer overall mobile sports betting apps that will soon become accessible to residents of Arizona.
SuperBook Arizona Sportsbook: SuperBook Arizona is strictly an online mobile sports betting app that is accessible to residents of Arizona. Competitive bonus promotion offers, favorable betting odds and markets, quality customer support, and high-performance live-in-play betting and streaming make it a quality online sportsbook to become acquainted with. Niche sports and popular sports abound, including collegiate sports teams, and betting halves, periods, innings, props, and run lines. It's the full package when it comes to a seamless online sportsbook app.
TwinSpires Sportsbook: The Tonto Apache tribe partnered with TwinSpires Sportsbook, a company that is associated with Churchill Downs. There will be retail and online sports betting at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino in Payson, Arizona. TwinSpires has been the brand name for online horse race betting for 15 years. It delved into a full sportsbook through a partnership with BetAmerica earlier this year, showing that the Churchill Downs family and stakeholders want to expand into the full extent of the legalized sports betting market in Arizona.
Unibet Sportsbook: One of the first companies to secure a deal in Arizona for sports betting is the Kindred Group, which owns Unibet. February 2021 is when the deal was struck, two months before governor Doug Ducey initially signed the two-state bills allowing sports betting and online sportsbooks to pass into law. This happened by striking a deal with the Quechan Tribe of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation, which operates the Quechan Casino. Several other states, including Pennsylvania and Indiana, have also served as locations for Unibet's expansion. It enjoys a huge presence in the betting industry since its initial launch in New Jersey back in 2019.
WynnBet Sportsbook: The merger of Wynn Resorts with the Austerlitz Acquisition Corp signified a changing of the guard at Wynn Interactive, the parent company that owns the WynnBet sportsbook. After striking deals in several states that include Colorado, Michigan, and New Jersey, WynnBet is one of the licensed mobile sportsbooks that launched on September 9th after making a deal with the San Carlos Apache Tribe, whose operators are the Apache Gold Casino and the Apache Sky Casino.
Arizona Sports Betting History
Senator Sonny Borelli expressed an interest in a sports betting bill for the state of Arizona back in 2018, prior to the expiration of the previous federal PASPA law. Upon its expiration the following year, another bill (S 1158) was written to re-establish support for sports betting legalization in Arizona. This would have permitted kiosks and other devices inside of bars and other liquor-serving establishments, including airport lounges and clubs. However, this bill also failed to pass the state's committee in 2019. SB 1525 was proposed to grant all 24 tribal casinos licenses for retail sportsbooks and kiosks while limiting mobile sports betting. 2021 was the year that finally saw legalized sports betting legalized for Arizona residents, as two bills, HB 2772 and SB 1797, both proposed to legalize sports betting and daily fantasy sports (DFS). With the assistance of Governor Doug Ducey, the sports betting laws were signed into effect in April 2021, with finalized license evaluation processes extending into the end of August.
These sportsbooks were launched in September and all mobile sports betting was made available to residents, including several brick-and-mortar sportsbooks and licenses granted to 10 tribal casinos and eight sports venues. Since its launch date on September 9th, 2021, 18 sports betting apps have been legalized and approved for all residents 21 years or older. Despite granting 18 licenses for sportsbooks, the progress of the legalization process has slowed, as only eight sportsbooks were available to play as of September 22nd. Pressure from one of the state's tribes sought to file an injunction halting sports betting but the sheer success of the betting market in its first month will surely override any legal action. Arizona recorded the fourth-highest amount of sports betting transactions amongst all of the states with legalized sports betting in September, meaning the young legislature should remain intact for years to come.
