2022 QBE Shootout PGA Tour Odds, Picks & Predictions

The 2022 QBE Shootout will take place in Naples, Florida, as 10 two-player teams will compete in this postseason exhibition at Tiburón Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort for three days beginning Friday. In what will be the 34th running of the legendary QBE Shootout, two LPGA women will compete with PGA Tour players for the first time in the event’s history as World No. 1 Nelly Korda teams up with Denny McCarthy and World No. 7 Lexi Thompson teams up with Maverick McNealy.

This week’s competition in Naples will feature 10 of the top 50 male golfers in the world, including No. 16 Max Homa, the highest-ranked player in the field. Each of the three rounds in this competition has a distinct format: the first round on Friday is a scramble, the second round is a modified alternate shot, and the third and final round is a four-ball.

As of Tuesday night, Jason Day and Billy Horschel, who are competing together for the first time in this competition, are the favorites to win at +500. At the same time, four teams have odds ranging from +600 to +650.

Let’s take a closer look at the course and a pair of players I’m keyed in on for success here in Naples.

Course Preview: Tiburón Golf Club

Greg Norman created Tiburón Golf Club (Gold Course), a par 72 course measuring roughly 7,382 yards. Players must maneuver a course with a natural Southwest Florida environment that combines challenging coquina bunkers with towering sod-wall bunkers.

Playing typically as a resort course, the Bermuda greens will be friendlier than most of the tracks these golfers see on a regular basis, and I think we see many take advantage throughout the day.

Brian Harman/Sepp Straka (+850

Finishing T6 at the Open Championship and T3 at the FedEx St Jude’s to close out last season, Brian Harman already has two T2’s in events played in November and is playing as good of golf as anyone in the world right now. He also has success here at Tiburon, winning the 2018 version of the event with then-teammate Patton Kizzirie.

As for Sepp Straka, a sluggish end to 2022 and start to 2023 was overcome with a T10 last week at the Hero World Challenge, as the Austrian is beginning to get back some of the shots that found him success mid-way through last season. While he’ll make his debut at this event, look for the confidence of Harman to be the difference for this pairing.
