2022 Wimbledon: Serena Williams Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction
On the Menâs side, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray have combined to win the previous ten Wimbledon titles. On the Womenâs side, there has been much more parity, as Wimbledon has crowned a different champion each of the last five years. The closest thing to dominance in that span has been Serena Williams, who has won three titles and finished runner-up on two other occasions. However, there has been an overall dominant force on the WTA for the last several months, as Iga Swiatek has won 35 consecutive matches, tying Venus Williamsâ mark for the longest consecutive match winning streak by a woman in this century.
The Womenâs Draw received a big jolt with the inclusion of Serena Williams, who will play her first tournament in 12 months. However, there are also notable absences, such as Aryna Sabalenka, Daria Kasatkina, Victoria Azarenka, and Ekaterina Alexandrova, as Wimbledon has banned all players from Russia and Belarus due to the ongoing war in the Ukraine. And most-recently, Naomi Osaka announced she would miss Wimbledon because of an Achilles injury. However, she was also critical of Wimbledon feeling like an exhibition this year as the tournament temporarily did away with ranking points.
This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to Wimbledon, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Menâs and Womenâs Draws.
Is any player poised to challenge Swiatek and end her historic winning streak? Will any woman break through for their first Grand Slam title with a somewhat compromised Wimbledon field?

Serena Williams Wimbledon History
Serena Williams is one of the most successful women of all time at Wimbledon. Her seven wins are tied for third on the all-time list but only trails Martina Navratilovaâs nine wins if you only count wins in the Open Era. Williams was granted a wildcard into the Wimbledon singles draw and will return to the venue where she last played a singleâs match 12 years ago. Williams slipped on wet grass in her first-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich last year and retired in the first set with a leg injury.
Serena Williams Recent Form
Williams would like nothing more than to win her 24th Grand Slam title, which would tie her with Margaret Court for the most ever by a woman, a record which has stood since her last Grand Slam victory in 1973. But there has not been much ârecent formâ to speak of regarding Serena, as the only tennis she has played since last yearâs Wimbledon injury is in doubles, teaming up with Ons Jabeur at the Eastbourne International.
Serena Williams Wimbledon Predictions
The Pick: Serena Williams to Lose in Second Round
Williamsâs longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, announced in April that he would no longer be working with her after joining forces with the former world No 1 Simona Halep. Williams will instead be accompanied by Eric Hechtman, who normally coaches Venus.
If working with a new coach was not enough of an obstacle, Williamsâ pre-tournament odds tumbled to +1800 after the draw was revealed. Williams was not given any favors having to navigate a quarter littered with No. 4 Paula Badosa, N0. 6 Karolina Pliskova, No. 11 Coco Gauff, and No. 16 Simona Halep. In addition, Williamsâ already short preparation was cut even shorter as doubles partner Ons Jabeur was forced to retire from the Eastbourne International with a knee injury. Thus, with just two doubles matches under her belt to prepare for Wimbledon, it is much more likely that she loses to No. 32 seed Sara Sorribes Tormo or Christina McHale in the second round than it is that she makes a deep run.
