2023 3M Open Bets: Odds, Picks & Predictions

There are only 260 days until the 2024 Masters. We’ve crossed over to the dark side of the moon when it comes to championship golf, but there are still dollars to be earned. Two more events grace the PGA Tour calendar before the top 70 in season-long points embark on the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

No Majors, mo’ money. This was the point last season where I was smoldering hot, with profits every week from The Open to the Tour Championship. Maybe this year, I won’t blow it all on whiskey and football props. Maybe…

2023 3M Open Bets: Odds, Picks & Predictions

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

The 3M Open is held at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn. The event is a bomber’s oasis. With past winners like Tony Finau and Cameron Champ, this will be an event where the shot tracer and Trackman get a lot of work. The par-71 track is on the longer side at nearly 7,500 yards. A return to “parkland” style golf is in order. Faster greens and lush rough, along with water hazards and tree-lined fairways, greet the golfers who have slogged through the links for a couple of weeks.

Length off the tee is helpful, but good drives are imperative. Approach proximity will be paramount again this week. Sticking it close here is much easier after a good tee shot. Some preference will be given to golfers on the top-70 bubble. They are trying to play their way into the playoffs and more earning potential. Birdie or Better Percentage (BOB%) and bogey avoidance will also be considered in my weighted statistical model. Lastly, recent form and course history are also noteworthy pieces to consider. Bite into a Juicy Lucy and yell, “SKOL!” Let’s tee off.

Cameron Young

No doubt about it, I’m ready to get hurt again. I have faded Cam Young for most of this season, thanks to his abysmal short game. He showed a lot of grit at Royal Liverpool last week, still searching for his first PGA Tour win. The 3M is precisely the type of venue where many can envision Young breaking through. Let’s all pray the world-class ball striking is matched with satisfactory putting.

Picks: Outright +1600 [1u]; Top-5 +360 [1u]

Emiliano Grillo

Another Open standout is the precocious Argentine, Emiliano Grillo. He also happens to be one of the most successful golfers at the 3M Open. No wonder. He’s a masterful player from tee to green and can score with anyone when rolling right like he is now. I was surprised his odds were this soft, considering all the factors working in his favor.

Picks: Outright +2500 [1u]; Top-5 [+550]

Ludvig Aberg

I can’t quit Ludvig Aberg. He is already an amazing professional golfer, still wet behind his ears on Tour. As consistently accurate and long he is off the tee, the young Swede can win here handily by simply staying out of trouble. The odds are a bit short for my liking, but my gut says it’s worth it.

Picks: Outright +2800 [1u]; Top-10 +320 [1u]

Nicolai Hojgaard

The Hojgaard brothers both have immense talent. Nicolai enjoyed a nice week at Royal Liverpool, where he tied for 23rd place. The burly Dane is only 22 years old and can absolutely smash the ball off the tee. Hojgaard already has two wins to his name on the DP World Tour and is shaping up to be a future thorn in the Americans’ side in Ryder Cup play.

Picks: Outright +5500 [0.5u]; Top-10 +500 [0.5u]

Peter Kuest

Bombers are all the rage this week, but I have a newfound soft spot for Peter Kuest. My 10-year-old daughter and I were watching him play at the Barracuda Championship last week. He finished the 18th hole, and I said, “Good round, Peter,” as he walked toward the scoring table. He saw my daughter and tossed his golf ball to her, saying, “thanks.” Kuest also came out and took pictures with us after signing his scorecard.

Kuest is riding some really strong form this season and is among the absolute longest hitters on Tour. He is also very good with a wedge in his hand and can get a hot putter from time to time. The odds are simply too short to ignore. You made my little girl’s day. I’ll be rooting for you, Peter.

Picks: Outright +11000 [0.25u]; Top-10 +900 [0.25u]; Top-20 +400 [0.5u]
