2023 Belmont Stakes: Updated Betting Odds
Post positions in horse racing can have strong implications for betting odds. Nine horses will race on Saturday with their post positions and betting odds as follows:
Post Position | Horse | Betting Odds |
1 | Tapit Shoes | 20/1 |
2 | Tapit Trice | 3/1 |
3 | Arcangelo | 8/1 |
4 | National Treasure | 5/1 |
5 | Il Miracolo | 30/1 |
6 | Forte | 5/2 |
7 | Hit Show | 10/1 |
8 | Angel of Empire | 7/2 |
9 | Red Route One | 15/1 |
No post is inherently the best one. Many factors contribute to which one is best for which horse. Some horses like to be on the inside, while others do best when they have wide open space to run from the outside.
Belmont is the longest track of the Triple Crown at 1.5 miles. Stamina is king for the horses, so itâs not surprising that the gate with the shortest distance, Post 1, is the gate with the most overall Belmont Stakes wins at 24. The overall breakdown of wins by posts is as follows:
Post Position | Belmont Winners |
1 | 24 |
2 | 13 |
3 | 15 |
4 | 10 |
5 | 15 |
6 | 9 |
7 | 14 |
8 | 7 |
9 | 4 |
10 | 1 |
11 | 3 |
12 | 1 |
13 | 1 |
If weâre looking at more recent history, Posts 3 and 7 have been the most profitable ones, each having three wins since 2000.
