Today’s 2023 NBA Summer League Best Bets

Here are our top picks for today’s 2023 NBA Summer League action.

Cavaliers vs. Bulls

The Cleveland Cavaliers have gone 3-0 in the Summer League this season. The Cavs just knocked off the Grizzlies, 100-77, behind Sam Merill and Emoni Bates. When Bates is hitting shots, it’s going to be hard for any team to beat the Cavaliers. Meanwhile, the Bulls added 107 in their most recent game against the Kings. Javon Freeman-Liberty has shown out offensively for the Bulls. But he’s got a supporting cast of other studs like Dalen Terry, Julian Phillips and Adama Sanogo. Neither offense can be stopped right now. I’m on the Over.

Pick: Over 178.5 (-110)

76ers vs. Hawks

Philadelphia just allowed 111 points to the Mavericks. But they also scored at least 103 points in their first two games this season. That’s why this game has Over written all over it. DJ Steward even added 24 points in 25 minutes off the bench for the Sixers. On the other hand, the Hawks just added their second win of the Summer League yesterday. Tyrese Martin has continued his dominance and scored 25 against the Timberwolves in a 99-93 win. Seth Lundy added 14 off the bench, and Kobe Bufkin also continues to shine with consistency. They’ll have no problem scoring against the 76ers, either. Back the Over.

Pick: Over 181.5 (-110)

Nets vs. Raptors

Toronto lost their third straight game yesterday against the Pistons. Gradey Dick finally put together a high-scoring game with 22 points, but he only shot 2-for-10 from downtown. Meanwhile, the Nets have won two straight games in the Summer League. Those two wins were won by at least 18 points each. David Duke Jr.’s experience has been a big reason why the Nets have dominated, and that likely doesn’t change against the Pistons. I’m on the Nets.

Pick: Nets -4 (-110)

Heat vs. Bucks

Miami had a poor performance against the Suns in their last game. The Heat only scored 70 points, with Nikola Jovic scoring only three points. That likely won’t happen again. Miami’s still deep with guys like Jamal Cain and Orlando Robinson. On the other hand, Milwaukee is 2-1 in the Summer League. They took their first loss against the Nets after MarJon Beauchamp struggled from the field. He had multiple high-scoring games but added no points in 23 minutes against the Nets. Milwaukee was set on playing all of their bench against the Nets. I don’t know if that’ll continue, but even if it doesn’t, there’s no consistency offensively for either team. Therefore, I’m on the Under.

Pick: Under 177.5 (-110)

Rockets vs. Warriors

The Rockets are legit. Even if they’re going to play without Tari Eason and Jabari Smith Jr, they’re going to be fine. Cam Whitmore looks NBA ready, and Trevor Hudgins surprised in 32 minutes for the Rockets in their 105-92 win over the Thunder. They’ll take on a Warriors team that hasn’t won in Las Vegas. Golden State lost in overtime to the Mavericks yesterday, despite another insane performance out of Lester Quinones. Reggie Perry also added 20 off the bench for the Warriors. But Brandin Podziemski only scored five points in 32 minutes. So there’s still some inconsistency with this team. I’m backing the Rockets.

Pick: Rockets -5.5 (-110)

Hornets vs. Pelicans

The Hornets have been an embarrassment. This team is 0-3 to begin the Summer League. They’ve got a roster filled with notable names, but they can’t figure anything out. Brandon Miller added 26 points in 31 minutes for Charlotte, along with Nick Smith’s 33. But will anyone else contribute? They’ll go up against a Pelicans roster that added an 82-73 win over the Suns last time out. The Pelicans have more depth and scoring options. But I still think the Hornets have a solid matchup against the Pelicans all in all. I’ll back the Hornets to earn their first win tonight.

Pick: Hornets +3.5 (-110)

Trail Blazers vs. Magic

Shaedon Sharpe came alive for the Blazers in Portland’s previous game against the Hornets. He added 26 points, while Kris Murray scored 19. The Blazers had five players in double-figures in that game. They’ll face an Orlando Magic squad that just lost to the Knicks in overtime yesterday. Anthony Black had a tip-in to force overtime. But he still only scored eight points in 34 minutes. Jett Howard found his shot, but the Magic simply have no depth. I’ll back the Blazers in this one.

Pick: Blazers -4 (-110)

Timberwolves vs. Kings

The Timberwolves might be 1-2, but they’ve got plenty of offensive options. Brandon Williams added 23 points in 29 minutes, while Josh Minott, D.J. Carton and Leonard Miller each added at least 12 points in a loss to the Hawks. They’ll take on a Kings team that just allowed 107 points to the Bulls. Jordan Ford added 25 in 30 minutes, along with Keon Ellis, who had 19. Even Souley Boum scored 22 off the bench. We’re going to see points in tonight’s game. Give me the Over.

Pick: Over 181.5 (-110)
