2023 NHL Playoffs Same-Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Monday (5/15)

Our lone Game 7 of a bizarre second round takes place Monday night, as the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken will do battle one more time, with the winner moving on to face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals.

Will it be the NHL’s two newest teams duking it out for a spot in the Stanley Cup Final? Or will Dallas hold serve on home ice? Here’s how I’m betting on this game from a same-game parlay standpoint.

Monday’s Best NHL Playoffs Best Same Game Parlay

All odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

Seattle Kraken (+165) at Dallas Stars (-195) | Total 5.5

    • Leg 1: Stars -195
    • Leg 2: Jason Robertson anytime goalscorer
    • Leg 3: Stars to score first goal
    • Odds: +225

The Kraken kept the franchise’s second season alive in resounding fashion Saturday night, dominating Dallas by a 6-3 margin. But the advanced analytics contrasted significantly with the actual game result.

Looking at 5-on-5 play, the Stars were far better in all of the major categories. They held 55% of the possession, posted 24 scoring chances to Seattle’s 18, and doubled the Kraken in high-danger scoring opportunities. All of that added up to an expected goals margin of 2.62-1.47 in favor of Dallas. In actuality, Seattle outscored Dallas 4-2 at even strength.

But in hockey, one off night from your goaltender can cancel out even the most dominant performances. And an off night is certainly one way to describe Jake Oettinger’s performance. Oettinger was downright dreadful, allowing four goals on 18 shots before eventually being pulled from the game.

A glance at the series analytics further proves that Dallas has simply been the better team throughout these six games. The Stars are generating far more chances (143-113) and high-danger opportunities (70-46) at 5-on-5. And while Dallas has actually been outscored 19-18 at 5-on-5, the Stars hold an expected goals margin of 14.43-10.76, per NaturalStatTrick.

Ultimately, Dallas’ chances could fall on Oettinger. And while he hasn’t been great in this series, I will trust him to bounce back in the biggest game of the season.

Of course, anything can happen in a one-game, winner-take-all scenario. And I don’t love laying this much juice in a Game 7. But I really like Dallas in this game back on home ice.
