2023 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Odds & Picks: Tuesday (7/25)

The 2023 NBA Summer League just wrapped up, but there is plenty of summer basketball yet to be played. The Big3 rolls on, and now fans get to enjoy TBT, The Basketball Tournament. Games will be featured on ESPN throughout the tournament, and we’ll have you covered with picks and predictions for each matchup. TBT believes “high stakes competition is the most powerful force in sports.” They’ll offer an open tournament and games of consequence daily which should result in some electrifying competition. Let’s take a look at our top picks for today’s TBT action.

Today’s 2023 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Bets

Here are our top picks for today’s 2023 TBT action.

Gutter Cats vs. The Nawf

The Gutter Cats have won eight games in The Basketball Tournament. They’ve assembled a roster of 14 players, including dominant guards like QJ Peterson and Jarell Eddie. This team reached the quarterfinals last year and has plenty of returning players. They’ll face The Nawf, who will play their first game ever in TBT. The Nawf is a bunch of hoopers from the greater Atlanta area. It will be difficult for them to stick with the Gutter Cats for a complete game. Take the Gutter Cats in round one.

Pick: Gutter Cats -11 (-115)

Challenge ALS: Florida vs. DawgTown

Challenge ALS has played in 11 games in The Basketball Tournament. This will be their first one this year. Challenge ALS is a team of Florida TNT and Challenge ALS merged into one. Both teams have done very well separately but have now joined forces to be one. Meanwhile, Georgetown’s team, DawgTown, will play its first game in The Big Tournament. Georgetown has a rich history of success, but that success hasn’t been recent. Take Challenge ALS: Florida here.

Pick: Challenge ALS: Florida -5.5 (-115)

Sideline Cancer vs. Ram Nation

This isn’t new for Sideline Cancer. They’ve played over 20 games in The Basketball Tournament and have won 14 games since the Tournament began. Meanwhile, they’ll take on VCU’s Ram Nation. Ram Nation hasn’t appeared in the TBT since 2019. But they’ve gone 8-4 in the tournament so far. After glancing at rosters, VCU has a lot of younger talent that can casually come in and wreck plans for Sideline Cancer. I’ll side with Ram Nation in this one. Give me all the points.

Pick: Ram Nation +9.5 (-115)

Shell Shock vs. Gataverse

The Shell Shock will play its first-ever TBT game today. They’ve comprised of Maryland alumni, with notable players like Roddy Peters, Rob Carter, and Darryl Morsell. There’s talent on this roster. That talent will face off against Gataverse in the first round of the TBT. The Gataverse are Florida alumni. They’ve got players that won back-to-back national championships in 2010. But that might hurt them knowing they’re a bit older than many of the field. Let’s back Shell Shock. The Big Ten is always better than the SEC!

Pick: Shell Shock +1.5 (-110)

The Ville vs. War Ready

Louisville will finally have a team in the TBT called the Ville. Players like Russ Smith and Peyton Siva will get in on the action. Those were two of the best guards in college basketball during their time. Meanwhile, they’ll take on an Auburn team that has gone 1-3 since joining the TBT. War Ready defeated WoCo Showtime in last year’s opener as an underdog but likely won’t have what it takes to beat Louisville in the first round this year.

Pick: The Ville -6.5 (-115)

Best Virginia vs. DuBois Dream

Best Virginia is 6-3 all-time in The Basketball Tournament as the West Virginia alumni team. They’ve got some younger players on the team, like Erick Stevenson. He should be a significant part of what they do in the tournament, along with John Flowers. On the other hand, DuBois Dream has gone 0-3 in The Basketball Tournament all-time. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve got a weak team year after year. Take Best Virginia. They’ve got way more talent.

Pick: Best Virginia -12 (-115)

Eberlein Drive vs. Jackson TN Underdawgs

Eberlein Drive is back for another season in the TBT. They’ve gone 11-8 in The Basketball Tournament since joining. This team is one of two remaining from the inaugural tournament in 2014. Still, they’ve only gone 11-8 in the Tournament and haven’t had big runs when in the tournament. However, the same can be said about Jackson TN Underdawgs. They’ve only gone 6-6 in The Basketball Tournament. They’ve had a couple of big upsets, but I still like Eberlein Drive’s team a bit more.

Pick: Eberlein Drive -6.5 (-115)

Aftershocks vs. Heartfire

The Heartfire have won three straight games to reach the quarterfinals. They’ve knocked off Juco Products, LA Cheaters, and Mass Street but still have some work. The offense hasn’t been highly consistent. They’ve played 14 players and have Marcus Hall leading the way with 11 points per game. Richard Soloman and Tevin Mack have played the best while out on the court, but I’m worried that Heartfire plays too many guys in this tournament. On the other hand, the Aftershocks knocked off the B1 Ballers, Beale Street Boys, and Team Arkansas. They only won their last two games by four points each. The Aftershocks have been living on the edge but typically only play eight players in their rotation. When Caleb Walker and Markis McDuffie are in, the Aftershocks play their best. Those two are also their leading scorers. With the spread at -1.5, I’ll take the Aftershocks to squeeze another victory.

Pick: Aftershocks -1.5 (-115)

Herd That vs. Zoo Crew

The Marshall alumni team, Herd That, has gone 4-3 in The Basketball Tournament. They’ll likely get solid production out of Jon Elmore. He’s one of the many core faces returning for this year’s run. They’ll take on Zoo Crew, the Pittsburgh alumni. The Zoo Crew will play their first game in The Basketball Tournament and will be led by Gilbert Brown, a player, general manager, and head coach. I’m not sure how that dynamic will play out. Give me Herd That here.

Pick: Herd That -1.5 (-115)
