2023 the Memorial Tournament: Best Longshot Bets, Picks & Predictions
After nailing the Emiliano Grillo outright pick at 80/1 in last weekâs Charles Schwab Challenge, we now look forward to this weekâs the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Muirfield Village Golf Club will host this event, which it has done annually since 1976.
Muirfield is a par-72, 7,533-yard track designed by Jack Nicklaus that rewards strong iron players due to the thick rough and firm, bentgrass greens. Looking at the top of previous leaderboards, the main predictor of success at this course is SG: Tee to Green.
Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023âs the Memorial Tournament.

2023 the Memorial Tournament: Best Longshot Bets
These plays are 0.3u and 0.15u, or 0.3% and 0.15% of your betting bankroll.
Sahith Theegala (+5500 via BetRivers): 0.3u
The first golfer we are targeting this week is Sahith Theegala, who currently sits at 55/1 via BetRivers. It has been a dynamite sophomore season for Theegala, who is ranked 21st in the FedEx Cup Standings and 27th in the OWGR.
Not only has he made 18 of 19 cuts this year, but he boasts six Top 6 finishes over that stretch, including his T5 finish at the RBC Heritage. Theegalaâs strong performance at Hilton Head is important to keep in mind considering that is another course heavily influenced by Nicklaus.
Theegala is live for another top finish this week, especially considering his excellent iron play. On TOUR this season, he ranks in the Top 67 in both SG: Tee to Green and SG: Approach the Green.
Additionally, Theegala has seen some success on bentgrass greens this season, finishing T5 at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP and ninth at the Masters Tournament. At Augusta, he finished 13th in SG: Putting.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Theegala finished fifth at last yearâs the Memorial Tournament, and an even better result could be in store this season.
Russell Henley (+7500 via FanDuel): 0.15u
Another golfer to target this week is Russell Henley, who currently sits at 75/1 via FanDuel. Henley is coming off a strong performance at last weekâs Charles Schwab Challenge, finishing T16.
Both Henleyâs iron play and putting on Colonialâs bentgrass greens should give us plenty of optimism for another strong performance at Muirfield. Last week, he finished in the Top 20 in SG: Putting, SG: Approach the Green, and GIR%.
Putting on bentgrass greens is typically not a problem for Henley, who finished T4 at Augusta amidst an obviously loaded field, which is very similar to this weekâs in terms of star power. At Augusta, he finished second in SG: Putting.
It has been a successful campaign for Henley, who has made 10 of his past 14 cuts, including his win at the World Wide Technology Championship. Part of this success is his strong iron play, ranking 40th on TOUR in SG: Tee to Green.
This strong iron play led to a T19 finish at Hilton Head, which, as mentioned above, is another Nicklaus design. Henley has made the cut at Muirfield in two of his past three appearances while also posting a sixth-place finish in 2013, and considering his recent form, 75/1 is too good of a price to pass up.
Best of luck!
