2023 U.S. Open: Best Longshot Bets, Picks & Predictions

With last week’s RBC Canadian Open in the rear-view mirror, we now look forward to this week’s U.S. Open in Los Angeles, California. The North Course at the Los Angeles Country Club will host this event, marking the first time that this area will host a U.S. Open in 75 years.

LACC is a par-70, 7,421-yard track designed by George C. Thomas Jr. with Bermuda grass and greens. It has not hosted a PGA TOUR event in 83 years.

Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023 U.S. Open.

2023 U.S. Open: Best Longshot Bets

These plays are 0.3u and 0.15u, or 0.3% and 0.15% of your betting bankroll.

Denny McCarthy (+15000 via Circa): 0.3u

The first golfer we are targeting this week is Denny McCarthy, who currently sits at 150/1 via Circa. Putting together a breakout campaign, he currently ranks 29th in the FedEx Cup Standings and boasts four Top 10 finishes.

Entering this week in tremendous form, McCarthy is coming off his runner-up performance at the Memorial Tournament and has made eight of his past nine cuts. Over that span, he boasts five Top 20 finishes.

Not only did McCarthy finish T29 at this year’s PGA Championship, but he also finished T7 at last year’s U.S. Open. This price is far too long on McCarthy to pass up, especially considering he also finished T14 at The Riviera Country Club in this year’s The Genesis Invitational, another course designed by Thomas Jr.

Chris Kirk (+22500 via Circa): 0.15u

Another golfer to target this week is Chris Kirk, who is also putting together a tremendous season. Not only did he secure a victory at this year’s The Honda Classic, but he enters this week in especially good form.

Kirk has now made 10 of his past 14 cuts, boasting four Top 10 finishes over that span. The reason his price is so long is that two of those four missed cuts came in his past two tournaments, but 225/1 is too long to pass up.

Additionally, Kirk has made the cut in each of his past four major championship appearances, including his T5 finish at the 2022 PGA Championship. The bermuda greens should serve as an advantage for Kirk, who finished T30 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and gained +2.82 strokes putting at The RSM Classic, two tournaments that featured those greens.

Best of luck!
