2023 Valspar Championship Betting Preview, Predictions & Top Pick

The 2023 Valspar Championship is this week’s event on the PGA Tour, as many of the world’s best are taking it off following last week’s Player’s Championship.  On Thursday play begins at the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort, and even with the brightest stars mostly out, the field is still a strong one.

According to the most recent 2023 Valspar Championship odds from DraftKings, Justin Thomas, a two-time major champion, is the +1200 favorite. Trailing just behind, he is followed by Jordan Spieth +1200, Sam Burns +1800 (2x champion here), and Matthew Fitzpatrick +1400.

At the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, the 2023 Valspar Championship will draw competitors from Florida’s east coast last week, to their western one this week as the Tampa area will play host. Let’s take a closer look at how things might play out on the Gulf.

Course Preview: Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort

The Copperhead Course, regarded as one of the PGA Tour’s most challenging golf courses, will make another attempt to tame some of the top players in the world this week. Due to the longer and closer location of the rough to the greens, the course is anticipated to play even more difficult this year. Naturally, Copperhead is best renowned for “The Snake Pit,” one of the Tour’s most challenging last three holes, which is comprised of a lengthy par-3 in between two challenging par-4s.

Outright Betting Pick: Jordan Spieth (+1200

When the PGA Tour completes its normal rotation each season, every once in a while, you find yourself wondering how Jordan Spieth managed to win at a given track. Last year it was  Harbour Town, and in 2015 it was this Copperhead Course. Spieth makes his first trip back to the Tampa area since 2018, armed with that victory as well as four other finishes inside the top 20, including that win.

It is an odd addition to his itinerary, especially considering that he still has two competitions to play in Texas before the main event at Augusta National. It is expected that Thomas would not participate in the WGC Match Play, and it would not surprise me if Spieth, his close friend. did the same thing.

Play well as it is to start the season, I like a strong showing here from Spieth as he begins to dial his game ahead of Augusta in less than a month’s time.
