2023 WM Phoenix Open: Best Longshot Picks & Predictions

With the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in the rearview mirror, we now look forward to this week’s WM Phoenix Open. This tournament will again occur in Arizona at the iconic Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale.

Referred to as “The Greatest Show on Grass” in the golf world, this tournament provides one of the rowdiest and most fun environments during the PGA Tour season. Looking at the top of previous leaderboards, the metric that predicts the most success at this event is SG: Tee-to-Green.

Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023 WM Phoenix Open. Follow me on Twitter to get all my plays on days without full write-ups.

Best Longshot Bets for 2023 WM Phoenix Open

These plays are 0.2u and 0.1u, or 0.2% and 0.1% of your betting bankroll.

Rickie Fowler (+7300 via Circa): 0.2u

The first golfer we are targeting this week is fan-favorite Rickie Fowler, who sits at 73/1 at Circa. It is important to shop around on Fowler’s price because his popularity from a fan perspective has driven the price down at numerous shops, but Circa has kept him at the fair price of +7300, which is worth taking a shot at.

Playing with a resurgence to begin the 2022-23 season, Fowler currently sits 23rd in the FedEx Cup Standings due to his strong start. He has made the cut five times in his first six tournaments and has three top-15 finishes.

Not only is Fowler posting strong finishes, but he is flirting with winning as he finished T6 at the Fortinet Championship and T2 at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP. His iron play is the main reason for this strong success, ranking 18th on TOUR this season in SG: Tee-to-Green and 17th in SG: Approach the Green.

Typically a strong iron player, Fowler thrives at this tournament. He won the WM Phoenix Open in 2019 and boasts six top-15 finishes. At 73/1, it is worth taking a flyer on Fowler to win this event for the second time.

K.H. Lee (+11000 via DraftKings): 0.1u

Another golfer we are targeting this week is K.H. Lee, who sits at 110/1 at DraftKings. Part of the reason that Lee’s line is so long is that he missed the cut in his latest appearance at The American Express.

However, before that tournament, Lee finished T28 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T7 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, T42 at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba and third at THE CJ CUP in South Carolina. Like Fowler, this strong resumé is due to Lee’s iron play.

On TOUR this season, Lee ranks 14th in SG: Tee-to-Green. This strong iron play should translate at the Stadium Course, where he has fared well before.

Lee finished as the runner-up in this tournament in 2021 to Brooks Koepka, and this could be the year where he redeems that performance and hoists the trophy.
