2024 Australian Open Odds, Picks & Predictions: Alex de Minaur

For the second time in the last three years, Novak Djokovic won three of the four majors in a calendar year, and he started that run of dominance at the Australian Open. Djokovic cashed for bettors who were willing to back him at short +110 pre-tournament odds, and his odds are short once again, considering he has won each of the previous four Australian Opens he has participated in (Djokovic was ineligible in 2022 after not being vaccinated against COVID-19).

The odds leaderboard was altered slightly after Rafael Nadal was thought to be ready to make his return to the first Grand Slam of the year after winning it in 2022, but he withdrew after suffering a hip injury and a small muscle tear in Brisbane and is focused on rest and rehabbing to be back in time for the French Open.

Stan Wawrinka is the only other men’s player in the field with an Australian Open title to his name, but that came back in 2014. Can anyone else win their maiden Australian Open title, or is Djokovic winning a record 11th a mere formality? Let’s take a look at our picks and predictions for Alex de Minaur.

2024 Australian Open Best Bets & Picks: Alex de Minaur

Prediction: Native Australian Alex de Minaur was always destined to get the majority of the crowd support at the Australian Open this week, but that support should be at a fever pitch after de Minaur ascended to his highest career ranking (No. 10) in the latest ATP rankings. de Minaur is coming off a brilliant performance at the United Cup, where he defeated three top 10 players (Taylor Fritz, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev) over a six-day span. He is now the 11th Australian man to crack the top 10, and is the first to do so in over 17 years since Lleyton Hewitt was a top 10 player in 2006. de Minaur began 2023 ranked 24th and had seven top-10 wins at that point, then secured six such victories last year alone, and has beaten nine top-10 players over the previous 12 months. He has made consecutive fourth round appearances at the Australian Open in 2022 and 2023, and is looking for his first-ever semifinal appearance in any Grand Slam event in the first major of the year.

Betting Advice & Pick: We expect Sinner to win this quarter, so a quarterfinal appearance is de Minaur’s likely ceiling.
