2024 Australian Open Odds, Picks & Predictions: Cori Gauff

On the Men’s side of the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic looks for his record 11th title, which would also be a record 25th overall Grand Slam title and would break a tie with Margaret Court for the most major titles of any men’s or women’s player in tennis history. However, the Women’s Draw only has four players (Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Cori Gauff) with odds shorter than +1800, as there has long been parity since the dominant days of Serena Williams. To illustrate that point, 2023 was the sixth time in the last seven years that a different player won each of the Grand Slams held that year.

Six of the previous eight women to win the Australian Open were first-time winners, and four (Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki, Sofia Kenin, and Aryna Sabalenka) won their maiden Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open. The Women’s Draw received much more buzz and attention with the announcement that two-time winner and four-time major champion Naomi Osaka would make her return for the first time since 2022.  Will this be the year a previous winner takes home the season’s first Grand Slam, or will another up-and-coming player secure their maiden title? Let’s take a look at our picks and predictions for Cori Gauff.

2024 Australian Open Best Bets & Picks: Cori Gauff

Prediction: Cori Gauff won the US Open last year, which should have the youngster confident that she can break through for her first quarterfinal appearance or better on hard-court at the Australian Open. Gauff’s hard-court success continued early this month when she claimed her seventh WTA title at Auckland, and only two teenagers since 2000 (Maria Sharapova-15, Kim Clijsters-12) have won more, per OptaAce. Auckland was also her eighth WTA final, tying her for the most such appearances among American teenagers since 2000 with Serena Williams. And since playing the hard-court circuit in the US in 2023, six of her 18 career 6-0 set victories on hard-court have come in that span.

Betting Advice & Pick: Gauff has a very winnable quarter with the rusty Naomi Osaka having the second-best odds in her section, so getting her at +110 to reach the semifinals seems like a steal.
