Prediction: Top-seeded Holger Rune reached the finals of Brisbane in his last tournament, ultimately losing in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 to veteran Gregor Dimitrov. Rune did not have the toughest path to the final, beating Alexander Shevchenko, Rinky Hijikata, and Jordan Thompson, but was exposed by Dimitrov, who had not lost a set or even been pushed to a tiebreaker after dropping the first set of his opening round match against Andy Murray. Regardless, that result does not lessen in any way what Rune has been able to accomplish in recent years, starting outside the top 90 of the ATP rankings in April 2022. He made a move in coaches to Boris Becker following three straight first-round losses at Toronto, Cincinnati, and the US Open that year, but Rune has since proved he can beat the sport’s best, with multiple wins over Novak Djokovic since then.
