2024 Australian Open Odds, Picks & Predictions: Jannik Sinner

For the second time in the last three years, Novak Djokovic won three of the four majors in a calendar year, and he started that run of dominance at the Australian Open. Djokovic cashed for bettors who were willing to back him at short +110 pre-tournament odds, and his odds are short once again, considering he has won each of the previous four Australian Opens he has participated in (Djokovic was ineligible in 2022 after not being vaccinated against COVID-19).

The odds leaderboard was altered slightly after Rafael Nadal was thought to be ready to make his return to the first Grand Slam of the year after winning it in 2022, but he withdrew after suffering a hip injury and a small muscle tear in Brisbane and is focused on rest and rehabbing to be back in time for the French Open.

Stan Wawrinka is the only other men’s player in the field with an Australian Open title to his name, but that came back in 2014. Can anyone else win their maiden Australian Open title, or is Djokovic winning a record 11th a mere formality? Let’s take a look at our picks and predictions for Jannik Sinner.

2024 Australian Open Best Bets & Picks: Jannik Sinner

Prediction: As long as Jannik Sinner avoids a matchup with Stefanos Tsitsipas at this year’s Australian Open, the road could be paved for his best result yet. Sinner lost a five-set classic to Tsitsipas in last year’s Round of 16, and lost to him in straight sets in the quarterfinals the year prior. Sinner is just 1-4 in Grand Slam quarterfinal matches after breaking through for his first major semifinal appearance at Wimbledon last year. However, there is optimism for the World No. 4 entering the Australian Open, as he went 20-3 in his final 23 matches in 2023, winning titles in Beijing and Vienna before leading Italy to its first Davis Cup title in nearly 50 years. Sinner is the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams since Novak Djokovic did it in 2008, and will look for guidance from Aussie coach Darren Cahill to get him over the top in this Grand Slam.

Betting Advice & Pick: Sinner now has multiple wins over two of the world’s best, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, and we would be tempted to play him on the moneyline if he were to meet Djokovic in the semifinals. However, Sinner’s -140 odds to win his quarter are too short as a standalone bet.
