With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the rearview mirror, it’s time for the 2024 Belmont Stakes. The final jewel of the triple crown, the Test of the Champion is typically the longest of the three races at a full 1.5 miles. However, the 2024 version of the Belmont States will run at the historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., rather than Belmont Park, as renovations are underway at the race's usual home. That means the distance is being shortened from 1.5 miles to 1.25 miles due to the difference in track circumference. Dornoch Belmont Stakes Predictions
- Post Position: 6
- Odds: 15-1
Though not a front-runner, Dornoch, trained by Danny Gargan and ridden by jockey Luis Saez, is considered a candidate for the back end of exotic bets like trifectas and superfectas. This year’s Belmont Stakes is considered wide open, with a deep field of horses capable of winning the race. However, Dornoch is considered a longshot, and our own Matt Barbato writes that a Dornoch victory would stun him. And Phil Wood doesn’t include him in his list of longshots and sleeper picks for Belmont. So if you’re going to bet on this horse, best to toss him in the back end of exotics for the odds boost. Just know it’s a longshot and limit your exposure.
