With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the rearview mirror, it’s time for the 2024 Belmont Stakes. The final jewel of the triple crown, the Test of the Champion is typically the longest of the three races at a full 1.5 miles. However, the 2024 version of the Belmont States will run at the historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., rather than Belmont Park, as renovations are underway at the race's usual home. That means the distance is being shortened from 1.5 miles to 1.25 miles due to the difference in track circumference. Mystik Dan saw his chances of a Triple Crown tarnished after a second place finish at the Preakness Stakes. In that race, jockey Brian Hernandez was happy to let Seize the Grey take the early lead and try to play catch up. While Mystik Dan had plenty left, Seize the Grey had no trouble closing out the race and never really giving the Kentucky Derby winner a chance. Mystik Dan hasn’t had the best speed figure in either of the Triple Crown races, but he does have plenty of endurance.
