2024 British Open Odds & Picks: Brooks Koepka

The final major of the 2024 golf season begins Thursday in South Ayrshire, Scotland, home of Royal Troon, a true jewel of the British Open course rotation.

Troon is one of the greatest links courses in the world. Golf’s top players will have to navigate dunes, pot bunkers, and, of course, the elements. Most days on the west coast of Scotland include rainy spells, and sometimes, the wind gusts in from the Firth of Clyde, driving up scores. The back nine at Troon can be especially punishing, with some of the course’s longest holes playing into a prevailing wind.

The British Open is often referred to as “The Open Championship,” and the winner earns the title Champion Golfer of the Year. That honor currently belongs to Brian Harman, who won at Royal Liverpool this year. The favorite this year, however, is Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, who has enjoyed a splendid season. Other top contenders include Rory McIlroy, who’s gone 10 years without a victory in a major, Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship in May, and Bryson DeChambeau, who won the U.S. Open last month.

Who’ll win the Claret Jug this year, and how should you bet the British Open? Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders and assess their chances.

Let’s take a closer look at our top 2024 British Open odds and picks for Brooks Koepka.

Brooks Koepka British Open Course History

Brooks Koepka was a full-time player on the PGA Tour by 2016, but he didn’t make an appearance in the Open Championship that season when it was last held at Royal Troon. Since joining LIV Golf, Koepka has gone off the rails, at least when it comes to The Open Championship. He has acquitted himself well at other majors, but he was T64 last year at Royal Liverpool, and he missed the cut at St. Andrews. Koepka had four top-10 finishes in a row in this major from 2015 to 2021, skipping 2016 and 2018, while there was no event in 2020.

Brooks Koepka Recent Form

Koepka hasn’t been himself this season, struggling in all three majors to date. He was 26th at both the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 and the PGA Championship at Valhalla GC. He was T45 at The Masters. So, while he is making cuts, he hasn’t been a threat on moving day or the final round. He has finished 26th or worse in four straight majors, although he did win the PGA Championship in 2023 at Oak Hill, and he was runner-up at The Masters last year, so he hasn’t been off the rails long.

Brooks Koepka 2024 British Open Betting Outlook

Koepka has had some difficulty in majors this season, and his last two tournaments in LIV Golf haven’t been great, either. He was T27 at LIV Golf Andalucia and T42 at LIV Golf Nashville. He hasn’t been playing well, although he is just a few months removed from three straight finishes of ninth or better on the LIV Tour, including a win at the Serapong Course in Singapore. He has some rather long odds for a golfer of his caliber, although he is right-priced for his recent slump and lack of production. Koepka is not one of the more appealing plays this week.
