2024 British Open Odds & Picks: Bryson DeChambeau

The final major of the 2024 golf season begins Thursday in South Ayrshire, Scotland, home of Royal Troon, a true jewel of the British Open course rotation.

Troon is one of the greatest links courses in the world. Golf’s top players will have to navigate dunes, pot bunkers, and, of course, the elements. Most days on the west coast of Scotland include rainy spells, and sometimes, the wind gusts in from the Firth of Clyde, driving up scores. The back nine at Troon can be especially punishing, with some of the course’s longest holes playing into a prevailing wind.

The British Open is often referred to as “The Open Championship,” and the winner earns the title Champion Golfer of the Year. That honor currently belongs to Brian Harman, who won at Royal Liverpool this year. The favorite this year, however, is Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, who has enjoyed a splendid season. Other top contenders include Rory McIlroy, who’s gone 10 years without a victory in a major, Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship in May, and Bryson DeChambeau, who won the U.S. Open last month.

Who’ll win the Claret Jug this year, and how should you bet the British Open? Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders and assess their chances.

Let’s take a closer look at our top 2024 British Open odds and picks for Bryson DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau British Open Course History

Bryson DeChambeau did not appear at Royal Troon in 2016. However, he is no stranger to The Open Championship, as the LIV Golf participant has made the cut in three straight Opens. He missed the cut at Royal Portrush in 2019, and there was no event in 2020 dude to COVID-19. He returned in 2021, posting a T33 at Royal St. George’s before a T8 at the links course at St. Andrew’s in 2022. He was T60 last season at Royal Liverpool GC, but at least he played into the weekend before tumbling down the scoreboard with a 5-over score in his final 36 holes.

Bryson DeChambeau Recent Form

We haven’t seen DeChambeau in a PGA Tour event since mid-June, when he did his best Rocky Balboa imitation at Pinehurst No. 2 in the U.S. Open. Diehard fans of the PGA Tour wanted to hate the LIV defector, but after being affable all week, having fun, and showing off an infectious smile and attitude, DeChambeau won over the masses with a 6-under 274 and a U.S. Open Trophy in the process. That came on the heels of a solo runner-up finish at Valhalla in the PGA Championship and a T6 at The Masters. If he is wearing a black hat, serving as the villain to some fans, it hasn’t affected his play and demeanor.

Bryson DeChambeau 2024 British Open Betting Outlook

So far, in three 2024 majors on United States soil, DeChambeau has posted finishes of 6th or better, with a runner-up and a victory. He has also made the cut in three consecutive Open Championships, and it appears that the best is yet to come. Ironically, he hasn’t won on the LIV Tour this season, with a best finish of T3 at The Grove in Nashville. He has been in fine form, though, in most events on that tour, too, and he just continues to produce in the majors with an astounding success rate. Consider at least a modest wager on DeChambeau.
