2024 British Open Odds & Picks: Robert MacIntyre

The final major of the 2024 golf season begins Thursday in South Ayrshire, Scotland, home of Royal Troon, a true jewel of the British Open course rotation.

Troon is one of the greatest links courses in the world. Golf’s top players will have to navigate dunes, pot bunkers, and, of course, the elements. Most days on the west coast of Scotland include rainy spells, and sometimes, the wind gusts in from the Firth of Clyde, driving up scores. The back nine at Troon can be especially punishing, with some of the course’s longest holes playing into a prevailing wind.

The British Open is often referred to as “The Open Championship,” and the winner earns the title Champion Golfer of the Year. That honor currently belongs to Brian Harman, who won at Royal Liverpool this year. The favorite this year, however, is Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, who has enjoyed a splendid season. Other top contenders include Rory McIlroy, who’s gone 10 years without a victory in a major, Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship in May, and Bryson DeChambeau, who won the U.S. Open last month.

Who’ll win the Claret Jug this year, and how should you bet the British Open? Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders and assess their chances.

Let’s take a closer look at our top 2024 British Open odds and picks for Robert MacIntyre.

Robert MacIntyre British Open Course History

Robert MacIntyre made his Open Championship debut at Royal Portrush in 2019 at age 22 and managed a top-10 finish, tying for sixth. He had another impressive showing in 2021, finishing eighth at Royal St. George’s. MacIntyre hasn’t fared as well the last two years, finishing 34th at St. Andrews in 2022 and 71st last year at Royal Liverpool.

Robert MacIntyre Recent Form

Last week, MacIntyre became the first native Scot to win the Scottish Open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. MacIntyre trailed by three shots with five holes to play, then played those final five holes at four under par, rolling in a 22-foot birdie putt on the 18th to secure the victory. MacIntyre also won the Canadian Open last month with his father as his caddie, and the 27-year-old lefty has recorded three other top-10 finishes this season. But MacIntyre has missed the cut in six of his last 13 PGA Tour events dating back to the Players Championship in March. This is one streaky fellow.

Robert MacIntyre 2024 British Open Betting Outlook

MacIntyre comes into the British Open on a roll, and this is basically a home game for him. He’ll have the Scottish patrons voicing their support. MacIntyre has a solid Open Championship history and has shown that he can find his way into the winner’s circle. The two recent victories have shortened MacIntyre’s odds to the point where some of the value has been baked out, but it’s worth considering a small outright wager or perhaps a top-10 bet (+360 on DraftKings).
