2024 British Open Odds & Picks: Tommy Fleetwood

The final major of the 2024 golf season begins Thursday in South Ayrshire, Scotland, home of Royal Troon, a true jewel of the British Open course rotation.

Troon is one of the greatest links courses in the world. Golf’s top players will have to navigate dunes, pot bunkers, and, of course, the elements. Most days on the west coast of Scotland include rainy spells, and sometimes, the wind gusts in from the Firth of Clyde, driving up scores. The back nine at Troon can be especially punishing, with some of the course’s longest holes playing into a prevailing wind.

The British Open is often referred to as “The Open Championship,” and the winner earns the title Champion Golfer of the Year. That honor currently belongs to Brian Harman, who won at Royal Liverpool this year. The favorite this year, however, is Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, who has enjoyed a splendid season. Other top contenders include Rory McIlroy, who’s gone 10 years without a victory in a major, Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship in May, and Bryson DeChambeau, who won the U.S. Open last month.

Who’ll win the Claret Jug this year, and how should you bet the British Open? Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders and assess their chances.

Let’s take a closer look at our top 2024 British Open odds and picks for Tommy Fleetwood.

Tommy Fleetwood British Open Course History

Tommy Fleetwood made an appearance at Royal Troon in the most recent Open Championship course to be played there, and he posted a dismal 7-over 149 to miss the cut. He looks for much better results this time around, and the Briton obviously has a lot more experience in 2024. In fact, he didn’t become a PGA Tour regular until the 2018 season. Fleetwood looks for redemption at Royal Troon, and he has made the cut in each of his past six Open Championships.

Tommy Fleetwood Recent Form

Since missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March, Fleetwood has been on a roll. He has made the cut in 11 consecutive events, including finishes of 21st or better in seven of those outings. In majors, he was T3 at Augusta National, T26 at the PGA Championship, and an impressive T16 at Pinehurst No. 2 in the U.S. Open. He actually got stronger in the latter, too, finishing strong with a 2-under 68. In fact, Fleetwood has closed strong in his past three majors, averaging a 67.3 strokes in Round 4.

Tommy Fleetwood 2024 British Open Betting Outlook

Fleetwood is a closer, so if he makes the cut — and there is no reason he shouldn’t — he’ll be a threat on Sunday. He has finished 10th or better in three of his past four Open Championships, including a runner-up finish at Royal Portrush in 2019, and a T4 at Royal St. George’s in 2022. He was also T10 last season at Royal Liverpool GC, so he is primed and ready to make the home nation fans proud.
