2024 Coca-Cola 600: NASCAR at Charlotte Odds, Picks & Predictions

NASCAR betting isn’t just about making the right wagers, it’s about knowing when to hold ’em and when to fold ’em.

This Memorial Day Weekend, as the Cup Series goes 600 miles in the sport’s backyard of Charlotte, N.C., I’ll be holding my units close to the vest pre-race. After all, a lot can happen in 600 miles. With juiced-to-hell odds at the top of the outright market, I advise betting live if targeting a favorite. Let them get you to the dance before you pay the tab.

That said, it’s the greatest weekend in racing, and if I don’t have a good jag going and at least a few bets to sweat by the time cars take to the track Sunday evening, I played it wrong. The unofficial start of summer is here, and we’ll bring it in with wagers across all three NASCAR series, the Indianapolis 500, and - depending on what sorta shape I’m in Sunday morning - the Monaco Grand Prix.

Let’s raise a glass to the holiday weekend with our best bets for the 2024 Coca-Cola 600.

2024 Coca-Cola 600: NASCAR at Charlotte Odds, Picks & Predictions

Top 10: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (+500 via DraftKings) | 1u

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made headlines at last week’s All-Star Race, throwing a mean right cross at Kyle Busch after “Rowdy” dumped him on lap two. After getting hit with a $75,000 fine, the Memphis, Tenn., native has all the motivation in the world coming to Charlotte.

It also happens to be one of his best tracks. Stenhouse Jr. has finished seventh in back-to-back Coca-Cola 600s races and is 10th in the Charlotte Next-Gen total speed rankings, courtesy of ifantasyrace.com. Dating back to his last nine Charlotte races, Stenhouse Jr. has a 9.44 average finish, with just one finish worse than P12.

Last year, specifically, the 36-year-old was a major player in the race, starting 10th, holding an average position of 10.3 and running 93.8% of laps inside the top 15. Perhaps most impressively, Stenhouse Jr. was sixth in driver rating (95.7).

While he has been just OK at the high-speed 1.5-mile tracks this season (17th at Las Vegas, P23 at Texas and P16 at Kansas), his increased motivation and track preference make him a T10 contender. At 5-1? I’m taking the shot every time.

Top 10: Carson Hocevar (+1200 via FanDuel) | .5u

Carson Hocevar is another driver who has had a strong affection for Charlotte. The 21-year-old has led laps in all three of his Truck Series races here and has finishes of P4, P16 and P2. Last year specifically, he was No. 1 in green flag speed, speed by segment and late-run speed. Obviously, a truck is very different from a Next-Gen car. Still, Hocevar finished P8 last year in his first Xfinity start on the quad-oval.

In the Cup Series this season, the driver of the Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro has finished P15 at Las Vegas, P10 at Texas and P24 at Kansas, our closest comp tracks. Hocevar unloads with T10 odds as short as +625 at some shops. So, to get him at nearly double that at 12-1 on FanDuel is certainly worth a look.

Chris Buescher (-108 via FanDuel) vs. Christopher Bell | 1.3u

Chris Buescher is arguably the hottest driver in the garage right now. He finished third at the All-Star Race after two near wins at Darlington and Kansas. Meanwhile, Christopher Bell has just one T10 in his last seven races (including the All-Star Race).

Buescher is also just better at the high-speed 1.5 miles right now, sitting sixth in the total speed rankings at those tracks this season (7.7), while Bell is 14th (15.0). Take out Las Vegas, where Buescher wrecked on lap two, and he’s 2-0 against Bell on comp tracks this season and beat his head-to-head in this race last year.

The wrong driver is favored in this matchup, and I intend to take full advantage of it.
