2024 Masters Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sam Burns

It’s Masters week, which means we’ll once again have the pleasure of watching the best golfers in the world take on the greatest golf course in the world, Augusta National.

Augusta is golf paradise, a stunning, immaculately groomed beauty that’s home to some of the most iconic holes on the planet, including the par-3 12th and the par-5 13th. No other course tests a player’s course-management skills and short game quite like Augusta.

This year’s tournament has no shortage of compelling storylines. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is trying to extend his recent run of dominance and win his second Green Jacket. Young stars such as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are hoping to break through and win at Augusta for the first time. The stars of the LIV Tour – including defending champion Jon Rahm and past champs Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed – will once again compete with their PGA Tour counterparts.

Welcome to the third annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to examine the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. Which players provide betting value and which are bad bets? Sit back and read on.

Course History

Sam Burns is set to make his third appearance at Augusta National this weekend, and he hasn’t found much success at the legendary course. The 27-year-old secured his best finish last year, placing 29th with a +1 score. He got off to a hot start with a 68 in the opening round, but a third-round 78 put a damper on any real ambitions to win the event. Burns’ debut at the Masters in 2022 saw him miss the cut after shooting 75-74 over the first two rounds.

Recent Form

Burns missed his first cut of the 2024 campaign at the Valspar Championship two weekends ago, so he’s not coming into the tournament on a high note. However, he had a four-tournament run earlier in 2024, during which he placed sixth, 10th, third and 10th in The American Express, Pebble Beach Pro-Am, WM Phoenix Open and Genesis Invitational, respectively. Statistically, Burns is 22nd in PGA shots gained: total, which matches his world ranking heading into the first Major.

Betting Outlook

With his current form and lack of true success at the Masters, I’ll be avoiding Burns this weekend from a betting standpoint. I can’t justify taking a shot on the 27-year-old after he missed a cut and 45th-place finish in his last two events.
