2024 Masters Odds, Picks & Predictions: Shane Lowry
It's Masters week, which means we'll once again have the pleasure of watching the best golfers in the world take on the greatest golf course in the world, Augusta National.
Augusta is golf paradise, a stunning, immaculately groomed beauty that's home to some of the most iconic holes on the planet, including the par-3 12th and the par-5 13th. No other course tests a player's course-management skills and short game quite like Augusta.
This year's tournament has no shortage of compelling storylines. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is trying to extend his recent run of dominance and win his second Green Jacket. Young stars such as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are hoping to break through and win at Augusta for the first time. The stars of the LIV Tour - including defending champion Jon Rahm and past champs Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed - will once again compete with their PGA Tour counterparts.
Welcome to the third annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We're going to examine the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. Course History
The Irishman had a devil of a time trying to negotiate Augusta National in his first few attempts, making the cut just once in his first four showings. He had a lot of crooked numbers along the way. However, it all changed in the COVID-19-delayed tournament of 2020, as he broke through for a 25th-place finish and has finished 25th or better in each of his last four trips to Augusta. He was third in the 2022 event, making a Sunday charge with a 3-under 69 to put pressure on Scottie Scheffler before coming up just short.
Recent Form
Lowry missed the cut at The American Express back in mid-January, getting his season off on the wrong foot. However, he has more than atoned, finishing 25th or better in four of his past five events, including a third-place showing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill and a 19th-place finish at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. In late March, he tuned up with a 29th-place finish at the Porsche Singapore Classic at Laguna National Golf Club in a DP World event.
Betting Outlook
Lowry has some rather long odds, but he is worth a half-unit play at the least since he has finished 16th or better in each of his past two showings at Augusta National. The 37-year-old has been tremendous in the strokes gained: total and strokes gained: approach-the-green categories, ranking in the top 10 in each area. That will serve him well, as will his driving accuracy, at Augusta. However, he has been rather uneven on the putting surface, which he needs to clean up if he wants his measurements taken for the green jacket.
