2024 Masters Odds, Picks & Predictions: Viktor Hovland

It’s Masters week, which means we’ll once again have the pleasure of watching the best golfers in the world take on the greatest golf course in the world, Augusta National.

Augusta is golf paradise, a stunning, immaculately groomed beauty that’s home to some of the most iconic holes on the planet, including the par-3 12th and the par-5 13th. No other course tests a player’s course-management skills and short game quite like Augusta.

This year’s tournament has no shortage of compelling storylines. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is trying to extend his recent run of dominance and win his second Green Jacket. Young stars such as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are hoping to break through and win at Augusta for the first time. The stars of the LIV Tour – including defending champion Jon Rahm and past champs Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed – will once again compete with their PGA Tour counterparts.

Welcome to the third annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to examine the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. Which players provide betting value and which are bad bets? Sit back and read on.

Course History

This will be Viktor Hovland’s fifth career start at Augusta. His seventh-place finish last year was his first in the top 20. The 26-year-old seems to be getting more comfortable at The Masters, learning how to navigate the legendary course. If the sixth-year pro wants to claim his first career Major and a green jacket, he’ll have to hit another gear, considering the strength of the field.

Recent Form

The 2023 FedEx Cup champion comes into this year’s Masters, having played a limited schedule compared to past seasons. In just five starts, the Oklahoma State product has yet to finish better than T-19 at The Genesis Invitational. Hovland’s iron play has been his Achilles heel this season, ranking just 104th on tour in SG: Approach to Green. The Norwegian has been strong off the tee, ranking 18th in SG: Off The Tee, but he’ll have to dial in his mid-range game if he will contend at Augusta this year.

Betting Outlook

With just one top-10 in four appearances at The Masters, Hovland is a risky play, but the reward may be worth it. I’m not sure you’ll get more talent at better odds than with Hovland. He’s a lock on the card for a top-20 wager and worth a small bet to win.
