The 96th annual Academy Awards ceremony, often known as the Oscars, is scheduled to take place on March 10th, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
The nominations have been announced, and the odds for Oscars betting are now accessible at a limited number of sportsbooks in the United States and offshore. It’s probably throwing money away, as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is such an overwhelming favorite, but there is no sense risking 80 times your potential return. In other words, you would need to risk $80 for every $1 won.
Poor Things was a dramatic piece starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, based on the 1992 book by Alasdair Gray. While it won a Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival in 2023, it’s still a long-shot to bump Oppenheimer off the perch. But we’re looking for value, and if any film has the chance to pull a stunner, it’s Poor Things.

As mentioned above, Poor Things is unlikely to win the Best Picture award, with Oppenheimer as the dominant favorite. The good news for everyone in this category is that there is no one from Oppenheimer up for an award in the Best Actress category.
Lily Gladstone is considered the favorite to win the Oscar for her work in Killers of the Flower Moon, a Western crime drama co-written and produced by Martin Scorsese. The movie starred Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio, and it will have a lot of folks in the state of Oklahoma cheering loudly on Sunday night, as filming was mostly done entirely in the Sooner State.
However, like Poor Things above, the best value bet is on Stone. For Gladstone, you’re need to risk nearly 2 1/2 times your potential return, while Stone is plus-money. Stone won the Best Actress at the 89th installment of the Oscars with her work as Mia Dolan in La La Land. A recent two-time winner in a short span isn’t unprecedented, as Frances McDormand took home the hardware in 2018, and again in 2022. Again, the best value here is Stone, and the Academy has shined on her before.

In 2023, it was the year of “Barbenheimer.” Barbie and Oppenheimer dominated at the box office. The bubble gum silliness of Barbie isn’t going to have a snowcone’s chance in Hades for best picture, but the cast, producers and writers are laughing their ways all the way to the bank, regardless. If Barbie does have a legitimate chance of winning an Oscar, it’s in the Best Costume Design. In fact, let’s hope Margot Robbie is in attendance, and able to make a speech. A really, long speech. Yeah, I am a simp. So what?!?
