2024 Paris Olympics Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (8/10)

The 2024 Paris Olympics are in its final weekend, with the closing ceremonies looming Sunday night. We still have plenty of betting action this weekend and there are a ton of medals to be distributed in the final two days of sporting action.

It’s Saturday, and we’ll continue to build that bankroll until they turn out the lights and extinguish the flame in the City of Lights.

Here are the three best bets for Saturday, August 10 at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Saturday’s Best Olympic Bets

(All bets are one unit unless otherwise specified)

Women’s Javelin Throw – To Win a Medal: Maria Andrejczyk (+115)

The Women’s Javelin Throw is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Haruka Kitaguchi (+200) of Japan is considered the gold medal favorite, followed by Colombia’s Flor Denis Ruiz (+380), Australia’s Mackenzie Little (+480) and Maria Andrejczyk (+500). To make the podium, Andrejczyk is right there among the favorites.

The 28-year-old Polish javelin thrower made her Olympics debut in the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, coming on the heels of a 2015 European Junior Championships at Eskilstuna, Sweden. She was able to take home the silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in this event. She auctioned off her silver medal to help fund heart surgery for an eight-month-old baby in her native Poland. In a feel-good story, a Polish grocery store chain won the auction and returned the medal to Andrejczyk.

Andrejczyk topped the Group B qualification with a throw of 65.52m, in front of Croatia’s Sara Kolak, who had a toss of 64.57m. Japan’s Kitaguchi was also in the group, coming in at 62.58m, so that’s great news for backers of the Polish javelin thrower. The final could have plenty of twists and turns. Still, at plus-money, Andrejczyk is a good bet to make the podium.

Women’s 1500m – To Win a Medal: Gudaf Tsegay (+320)

Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay is a strong value play at this price, as she can help you more than triple up if she simply makes the podium.

The Ethiopian women’s long-distance program is very good, and both Tsegay (03:56.410) and Diribe Welteji (03:55.100) easily broke the four-minute mark in the Semi-Final 2. Tsegay has much longer odds to make the podium than her fellow Ethiopia, who will cost you nearly four times your initial return.

Tsegay was the bronze medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and she posted a gold medal in the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Ore. in the 5000m. She has plenty of competition to get a bronze or better, but at this price, she is certainly worth a roll of the dice.

Men’s Handball – Bronze Medal Winner: Spain Moneyline (-146) vs. Slovenia

Spain lost a heartbreaker to Germany in Friday’s semi-final, falling 25-24. Spain did well to get into position for a medal, as it finished third in Group A in the preliminary round behind table topper Germany and Saturday’s opponent, Slovenia.

Spain ended up allowing 148 goals in preliminary round play, and that’s a bit concerning. However, Croatia managed just 140 goals in preliminary play, while posting a minus-two goal differential, tied for worst among quarter-finalists.

Slovenia was edged 31-30 by Denmark on Friday, so it also knows heartbreak. Spain topped Slovenia 25-22 back on July 27 in the opening match of preliminary round play for both nations. Look for Spain to get the job done again, reaching the podium as the moderate favorite.
