2024 Paris Olympics Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (8/11)
It's the final day of the 2024 Paris Olympics and only a few medals are left to sort. Can the USA women's volleyball team upset Italy in the gold medal match? Will the USA cover a huge spread against France in the women's basketball final? Will the offensive prowess of Germany and Denmark continue in the men's handball final?
Here are the three best bets for August 11 at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sunday’s Best Olympic Bets
Women's Volleyball: USA +1.5 (+100) vs. Italy
The Italians are rightfully favored in this match. They have lost just one set at this tournament, falling once to the Dominican Republic in their opening match of the Olympics. Since then, they've rattled off four consecutive 3-0 victories, including two over Turkey.
But let's not punish the American women for only beating Brazil 3-2. Until that match, the Brazilians hadn't lost a single set at the Olympics. The Americans fell 3-2 in their opening match, then barely held on to defeat Serbia in their second. But after that, they found their rhythm. They had no trouble with France or Poland before their hard-fought match against Brazil. With how battle-tested Team USA is, we expect this to go five sets.
Women's Basketball: USA -15 (-112) vs. France
While the Americans are likely to take silver in women's volleyball, there is very little doubt that they will come away with the gold in women's basketball. The only question is can they cover this large of a spread?
It's a good story to see the French advance this far at their home Olympics, but they're simply outmatched here. The Americans have won every game in this tournament by at least 13 points. They just defeated Australia by 21 points in the semi-finals. That same Australian team defeated France at the end of the Group Stage. There isn't a team at this tournament that can play with Team USA. Just because it's the championship game, doesn't mean we should be scared of taking a huge favorite.
Men's Handball: Denmark vs. Germany Over 57.5 Goals (-115)
The two highest-scoring teams at this year's Olympics will battle for the gold medal on Sunday. While both teams have looked dominant throughout the tournament, they're each coming off one-goal semi-final wins. Denmark is rightfully favored, but the Germans can play with them. That is why we are avoiding the spread.
Instead, we are looking at the total. Both of these teams scored over 160 goals in the Group Stage. While Denmark allowed just 133 goals, they didn't have to face an offense as powerful as Germany's. And in their last game, they allowed 30 goals to Slovenia. Look for both of these teams to get in the 30s, as Denmark pulls out a very close win.
