2024 PGA Championship Odds & Picks: Bryson DeChambeau

Golf’s biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.

This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.

Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

Bryson DeChambeau Recent Form

From March to mid-April, DeChambeau was playing excellent golf. He racked up three top-10 finishes on the LIV circuit before turning in a sixth-place outing at The Masters. Since then, the 30-year-old has dropped off a bit, finishing outside the top-20 in the two subsequent events. DeChambeau leads the LIV Tour in eagles (7), but he’s just 25th in putting average (1.6), which fortifies the theory that he’s still a boom-or-bust type of player.

Bryson DeChambeau 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook

I’m going to stay away from any of the longer-priced wagers (i.e., outright winner, top-5) with DeChambeau. As mentioned earlier, he’s still an all-or-nothing type of player, which makes him entertaining but not necessarily dependable when it comes to backing him financially. Considering that he finished his last two tournaments outside of the top 20 and has no course experience, DeChambeau is a pass for me this weekend.
