2024 PGA Championship Odds & Picks: Jason Day

Golf’s biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.

This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.

Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

Course History

Jason Day hasn’t fared particularly well in recent PGA Championships, finishing outside the top 40 in his last three. But Day won the 2015 PGA at Whistling Straits. He also had a respectable showing the last time the PGA Championship was held at Valhalla, finishing 15th in 2014.

Jason Day Recent Form

We’ve gotten a mixed bag from Day in 2024, but he’s coming off a fourth-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. It was his first top-10 since Genesis in mid-February, so he has some momentum heading into Valhalla this week.

Jason Day 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook

The fact that we can bet Day at 60-1 seems too good to be true. Day ranks 15th in strokes gained around the green and 13th strokes gained putting. However, his approach shots have been some of the worst on the PGA Tour this season. A modest wager suffices when betting on Day since he did win the 2015 PGA Championship, albeit at a different course than Valhalla.
