Golf's biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.

This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.

Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

Joaquin Niemann is another LIV Golf who’s playing competitive golf at Valhalla for the first time this week. His best finish in a PGA Championship was a 23rd at Southern Hills in 2022. The 25-year-old Chilean golfer is second in birdie average at LIV, as well as second in greens in regulation. His putter is solid, and he's strong off the tee, which could allow NIemann to have some success at this venue.

Niemann wound up with a T22 finish at The Masters, only enduring one bad round, recording a 78 in Round 2. His Torque GC team at LIV has been solid, with an outright win and another T3 finish since March.
