2024 PGA Championship Picks: Will Zalatoris, Ludvig Aberg, Scottie Scheffler
Golf's biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.
This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.
Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

2024 PGA Championship Picks
Here are a few of our favorite 2024 PGA Championship picks for a few notable golfers at this weekâs major tournament.
Will Zalatoris Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +7000 (BetRivers)
- World Ranking: 30
- Best PGA Championship Finish: 2 (2022)
- Last Two PGA Championship Finishes: 2, 8
- Last Four Tournament Finishes: 60, MC, 44, 9
Course History
Will Zalatoris has fared well at this event early in his career. He missed last yearâs PGA with a back injury, but Zalatoris finished second at Southern Hills in 2022, losing a playoff to Justin Thomas. Zalatoris tied for eighth in the 2021 PGA at Kiawah Island.
Will Zalatoris Recent Form
We saw a stretch of 13th, second, and fourth from Zalatoris a few months ago to kick off the 2024 PGA Tour season. Since then, he's regressed, missing two cuts and turning in a T44 and T60. The lone bright spot came at Augusta National, where Zalatoris wound up ninth at even par.
Will Zalatoris 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
While Zalatoris has only competed in two PGA Championships, he's already posted a pair of top-10s. After recovering from the back injury that kept him out of the 2023 PGA, Zalatoris is ready to roll at Valhalla. A runner-up at Southern Hills Country Club in 2022 is encouraging, so despite the sluggish recent results, weâre getting a nice price on Zalatoris this week, making him worth a bite.
Ludvig Aberg Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +1800 (BetMGM)
- World Ranking: 6
- Best PGA Championship Finish: N/A (first appearance)
- Last Four PGA Finishes: N/A (first appearance)
- Last Four Tournament Finishes: 10, 2, 14, 8
Course History
Young Ludvig Aberg is a prodigy and will likely see Valhalla a few times before he rides off into the sunset. He has yet to log a competitive round here in Louisville. In fact, this will be the first PGA Championship for the 24-year-old Aberg.
Ludvig Aberg Recent Form
Some people will be frightened to bet the young Swede due to his withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship with an apparent knee injury. Abergâs recent form leading up to last week indicates it was purely for maintenance and to enter his first PGA Championship at full health. Aberg has been a picture of consistency all season. His runner-up at the Masters last month signals the phenom is ahead of schedule when it comes to contending in majors.
Ludvig Aberg 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
Aberg has done everything except win a tournament so far since turning professional. He couldnât quite keep pace with Scottie Scheffler at Augusta National, but the kid is an absolute machine. He seems immune to pressure and is the prototypical assassin who could turn into a Brooks Koepka type in majors for years to come. His current line at +1800 is awfully short, but Iâve done crazier things based on my gut instinct. Aberg can absolutely win the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
Scottie Scheffler Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +450 (BetMGM, BetRivers)
- World Ranking: 1
- Best PGA Championship Finish: 2 (2023)
- Last Four PGA Finishes: 2, CUT, 8, 4
Course History
Scottie Scheffler finished runner-up to Brooks Koepka in last yearâs PGA Championship at Oak Hill, finishing seven under par, two shots back. Scheffler missed the cut at Southern Hills in 2022 and tied for eighth at Kiawah Island in 2021. Since he has burst onto the scene in just the last few years, Scheffler has yet to compete at Valhalla Golf Club. Itâs hard to imagine any golf course that wouldnât favor Schefflerâs brand of dominance from tee to green, however.
Scottie Scheffler Recent Form
There are only a couple of golfers in the history of the game who can say they entered the PGA Championship on this type of heater. Scheffler has won four of his last five starts, with a runner-up sandwiched in between. The worldâs best player is on an unparalleled tear approaching Valhalla.
Scottie Scheffler 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
There should never be any qualms about betting a Scottie Scheffler outright, even at such short odds. The birth of his first child notwithstanding, Scheffler elicits as much confidence in taking down a major tournament as anyone the game has ever seen. Too short? Wait for a slow start and live-bet him if the odds slip.
