2024 PGA Championship Picks: Max Homa, Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Smith
Golf's biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.
This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.
Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

2024 PGA Championship Picks
Here are a few of our favorite 2024 PGA Championship picks for a few notable golfers at this weekâs major tournament.
Cameron Smith Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +4000 (BetMGM, BetRivers)
- World Ranking: 61
- Best PGA Championship Finish: 9 (2023)
- Last Four PGA Championship Finishes: 9, 13, 59, 43
- Last Four Tournament Finishes: 2, 14, 6, WD
Course History
Cameron Smith has finished in the top 15 in each of the last two PGA Championships, tying for 13th at Southern Hills in 2022 and tying for ninth at Oak Hill last year. This will be Cameron Smith's first professional appearance at Valhalla Golf Club.
Cameron Smith Recent Form
Smith is coming off of arguably his best performance of the year, bagging a second-place finish at the LIV Golf Singapore event last weekend. This was his second second-place finish on the LIV Tour in 2024, where he also earned silver in Hong Kong back in March. The Australian has been competitive lately, placing 14th in the LIV Adelaide event in late April and also finishing sixth at The Masters.
Cameron Smith 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
I won't be playing Smith in the outright winners market, but I think this is a great opportunity to lock him in for a top-10 spot. Smith loves the big stage, which is apparent by the fact that he has finished inside the top-10 in five of his last nine major championships. He's in excellent form, and he's also the best putter (1.51 putts per hole) on the LIV circuit. I want to have a stake in Smith, and I'll do it by wagering that he finishes inside the top 10.
Tommy Fleetwood Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +4000 (FanDuel Sportsbook)
- World Ranking: 11
- Best PGA Championship Finish: 5 (2022)
- Last Four PGA Championship Finishes: 18, 5, MC, 29
- Last Four Tournament Finishes: 13, 49, 3, 7
Course History
Tommy Fleetwoodâs best finish in a PGA Championship was a tie for fifth at Southern Hills in 2022. Fleetwood is one of roughly 40 players who competed at Valhalla Golf Club back in the 2014 edition of this event, but it was a forgettable experience for the Englishman. The then-23-year-old missed the cut, shooting 73-71 over the first two rounds.
Tommy Fleetwood Recent Form
Fleetwood has been playing well this year, securing three top-10 finishes in 2024. Two of those have come in his last four events, where he placed third at the Masters (-4) and seventh at the Valero Texas Open (-8). Fleetwood won the Dubai Invitational (-19) in January but has yet to bag a PGA Tour victory in his career.
Tommy Fleetwood 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
While Fleetwood hasn't been able to get the monkey off his back and win a PGA event, he has been on fire in major championships recently. In his last nine majors, the Englishman has four top-5 finishes and a top-10. He's in pretty decent form overall, and he has played Valhalla in the past. FanDuel is offering a +360 payout for Fleetwood to place inside the top-10, and I think that wager is worth a look.
Max Homa Stats to Know
- Best Odds to Win: +3300 (FanDuel, BetMGM, BetRivers)
- World Ranking: 10
- Best PGA Finish: 13 (2022)
- Last four PGA finishes: 55, 13, MC, MC
- Last four tournament finishes: 8, 55, 3, 25
Course History
Max Homaâs only good showing in a PGA Championship so far in his career was a tie for 13th at Southern Hills in 2022. This will be the first PGA Tour event at Valhalla Golf Course for Max Homa.
Max Homa Recent Form
Homa is heading to Valhalla fresh off a top-10 finish in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. He finished third at the Masters last month. Although Homa ranks 48th in shots gained in total, his 27th ranking in scrambling helps explain how he is consistently able to score low. At Quail Hollow, Homa holed out twice from off the green on his way to the eighth-place finish.
Max Homa 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook
Two top-eight finishes over his last three tournaments have led to Homa having the 10th-shortest odds to win the PGA Championship. Over the past year, Homa has consistently played well in big events. Homa was a bright spot for the American team at the Ryder Cup last fall, then had a strong showing at the Masters. I like a top-5 bet (+650 at DraftKings) on Homa this week at the PGA Championship.
