2024 Puerto Rico Open: First-Round Leader Odds, Picks & Predictions
We have a pair of events on the PGA Tour schedule this week. While 69 of the worldâs best are in Orlando, Fla., at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, those who did not qualify for the elevated event will travel to Grand Reserve Country Club on the island of Puerto Rico for the 2024 Puerto Rico Open. This full-field event has been a staple of the Tour for decades, giving those who arenât part of the API a chance to earn FedEx Cup points.
Colombiaâs Nico Echevarria nabbed his first-career PGA Tour win here last year and is back to defend his title. The torunamentâs 2022 winner Ryan Brehm and 43 first-time participants are also in the field. Warm weather and breezy conditions await the field, as is usually the case with tropical Tour destinations.
2024 Puerto Rico Open Best First-Round Leader Bets
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Robert MacIntyre (40-1)
The Scottish native has three worldwide wins and was an integral part of the 2023 European Ryder Cup team that topped the U.S. back in September. While MacIntyre has struggled to adjust to full-time PGA Tour life, missing three of six cuts to date, the former McNeese State Cowboy seemed to find his game at the Mexico Open last month. This will be MacIntyreâs first appearance in Puerto Rico, so thereâs no history here, but his solid performance south of the border earlier in the year makes this pick a great value.
Brandon Wu (50-1)
This will be Brandon Wuâs third appearance in Puerto Rico, and the 27-year-old will be looking for his third straight top-10 finish. The Stanford alum posted an opening-round 66 here in 2021, so heâs capable of starting fast. Itâs been an up-and-down 2024 season for Wu, but like MacIntyre, the California native played well in Mexico, posting a T-13 finish.
Rafael Campos (65-1)
This event means everything to Rafael Campos. The Puerto Rico native relishes the opportunity to compete in his home countryâs open championship, and it shows. In 14 career appearances, Campos has yet to win but has come close, finishing T-3 in 2021. The 35-year-old has also shown the ability to start fast here, posting an opening round 64 in 2016. This is a really solid number for a golfer who is motivated to play well and has a top-20 finish on the PGA Tour already this season.
