2024 The Genesis Invitational: PGA Longshot Odds, Picks & Predictions

The stage is set for one of golf’s biggest events, The Genesis Invitational, to get underway from Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California this week. It’s always been an iconic venue on the PGA Tour, but as of this year, Genesis is now a Signature Event.

Hosted by legendary golfer Tiger Woods, this is only one of two Signature Events that will enforce a cut line after the first two rounds are completed. The top 50 players with the lowest scorecards, including ties, as well as any golfer within 10 strokes of the outright lead after 36 holes will advance to play on Saturday and Sunday. There’s an increased purse for all who make the cut, plus 700 FedExCup points allocated to the outright winner.

We’re fresh off of nailing Nick Taylor in last week’s PGA Longshot article, coming through at +17000 odds in the PGA Tour outright betting market. It’s our first hit of the season, but certainly not the last, so let’s find out which players with longshot odds are worth investing in ahead of Thursday’s opening round from the Riviera Country Club that will host the 2024 Genesis Invitational.

2024 WM Phoenix Open: Best Longshot Bets

These plays are .25u and .10 u, or 0.25% and 0.10% of your betting bankroll. Odds used exclusively from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Cameron Young (+3500)

Surprisingly, Cameron Young has yet to win a PGA Tour event outright. Coming off of a season-best T8 finish at the WM Phoenix Open, Young should be able to transfer his momentum into another strong outing at The Genesis Invitational. Young has had a lot of success playing at Riviera Country Club, finishing T2 in 2022 and T20 in 2023.

He scorched the field and started -14-under-par in the first two rounds played in 2022, before regressing down the stretch, leaving room for Joaquin Niemann to wind up winning by two strokes. Young ranks 27th in strokes gained off-the-tee, packing a powerful driver, while finding greens in regulation at over 75 percent, ranked 31st on the PGA Tour. Young deserves a 0.25 unit wager at +3500 odds in the PGA Tour outright betting market this week.

Will Zalatoris (+6000)

We’re going back to Will Zalatoris, who is looking solid following a surgical procedure on his back that kept him out for much of the 2023 PGA Tour season. Zalatoris wound up in a solo fourth-place finish at Genesis last year, surging late in the final round with a ridiculous -7-under-par performance. He has yet to log a T10 finish in three starts, but he’s improved each event that he’s played this season, going from MC, to T34, then a T13 at Farmers during his last appearance.

Fresh and well-rested, Zalatoris is capable of leaning on his excellent driver, which is also accurate, to avoid errant lies and make a run on a course he’s very familiar playing on. Let’s invest 0.10 units on Zalatoris to end his two year outright win drought with solid value at +6000 odds in the outright betting market this week.

Rickie Fowler (+15000)

Rickie Fowler is getting too much disrespect in the PGA outright betting market right now. At +15000, Fowler’s talents are being discounted due to a shaky start to the 2024 season. We need to take advantage of this number. Fowler hasn’t put it all together yet, missing two cuts and failing to finish better than T47 in any of the four events he’s competed at. However, Riviera Country Club is a course where Fowler historically succeeds.

In 2023, Fowler logged a T20 finish, held back by going +4 in the second round, washing away his -3-under-par opening round. In 2022, Fowler finished T55, but he also managed another T20 finish here in 2021. The 35-year-old California native ended a multi-year win drought last season, plus he has half a dozen outright wins in his career. Fowler ranks 27th in total driving efficiency, while ranking 19th in par 3 birdie leaders. There are four par 3 holes, compared to three par 5 holes, giving him an edge to make a run with precise iron play off the tee. We’re not going crazy here, but staking 0.10 units on Fowler at +15000 odds will return a significant amount of profit to build our bankroll.
