2024 Tour Championship Odds & Picks: Aaron Rai

The PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

It's the final event of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. At stake: the honor of being the FedEx Cup champion and a whole lot of money. The winner of the Tour Championship receives $25 million and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. Second place is worth $12.5 million. Every player in the 30-man field will earn at least $550,000.

The Tour Championship uses a unique "starting strokes" system that rewards players based on the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated so far this season. FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler will start at -10. No. 2 player Xander Schauffele starts at -8, No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama starts at -7, No. 4 Keegan Bradley starts at -6, and No. 5 Ludvig Aberg starts at -5. The rest of the field is sorted into groups of five, with groups starting at -4, -3, -2, -1 and even par. Bear in mind that betting odds for the Tour Championship take the starting strokes system into account.

Let's take a closer look at our top 2024 Tour Championship odds and picks for Aaron Rai.

Aaron Rai Tour Championship Course History

Aaron Rai makes his first appearance at The Tour Championship, and he’ll have his work cut out for him. Since he ranks T26 in the FedEx Cup standings, Rai will start out at even par, 10 strokes behind FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler. The UK native checks off plenty of boxes for success at this event. He ranks sixth in strokes gained: approach, which is one of the key areas of focus, and he is at least above average in terms of strokes gained: putting, ranking 69th on the PGA Tour. He is the top golfer on Tour in terms of driving accuracy, too, checking in at 72.3%. That has helped him to a third-place mark in greens in regulation at 71.9%.

Aaron Rai Recent Form

Rai heads into Atlanta with a lot of steam, picking up a win at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield CC in suburban Greensboro, N.C., winning $1.422M. He has his eyes on a much bigger prize at East Lake, though he will start with a severe disadvantage. He followed that win up with a T16 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, including a final-round 5-under 67 to earn another strong payday. He wasn’t much of a factor at the BMW Championship this past weekend, although he was certainly consistent. Three of his four rounds were good for a 2-over 74, while he carded a second-round 2-under 70 for his only good day. He has been 19th or better in seven of his past nine events, including three top-5 finishes and the win.

Aaron Rai 2024 Tour Championship Betting Outlook

If all scores were level, Rai would be a tremendous betting option in this event. In all areas one needs for success at East Lake, Rai does well. However, starting 10 strokes off the pace from the jump is a tall order, no matter how well you’re playing — and especially when the golfer starting with a big lead happens to be Scottie Scheffler. Rai might be able to play himself into a top-10 finish this week — that’s how well he has been going lately. Even with the handicap, I expect Rai to make some noise. He is just too far back to consider for an outright win, but a top-10 finish could still net you a nice payday.
