2024 Tour Championship Odds & Picks: Justin Thomas
The PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
It's the final event of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. At stake: the honor of being the FedEx Cup champion and a whole lot of money. The winner of the Tour Championship receives $25 million and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. Second place is worth $12.5 million. Every player in the 30-man field will earn at least $550,000.
The Tour Championship uses a unique "starting strokes" system that rewards players based on the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated so far this season. FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler will start at -10. No. 2 player Xander Schauffele starts at -8, No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama starts at -7, No. 4 Keegan Bradley starts at -6, and No. 5 Ludvig Aberg starts at -5. The rest of the field is sorted into groups of five, with groups starting at -4, -3, -2, -1 and even par. Bear in mind that betting odds for the Tour Championship take the starting strokes system into account.

Justin Thomas Tour Championship Course History
This will be the eighth time Thomas has teed it up at East Lake GC for The Tour Championship, and when he makes the field, he usually fares well. He was not part of the festivities in 2023, last appearing in 2022 when he finished fifth. Thomas has never finished lower than seventh in his seven previous appearances in this event while managing a runner-up finish on two occasions (2017 and 2020). While JT usually makes noise, he begins 10 strokes off the pace behind Scottie Scheffler, as Thomas was T26 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Justin Thomas Recent Form
Thomas started the season as a ball of fire, posting a T3 at The American Express and a T6 at Pebble Beach back in January and early February. While he has had seven top-20 finishes this season in 18 events, Thomas has just one in his previous seven starts. He tumbled down the leaderboard hard at Royal Troon, carding a final-round 77 to fall out of contention and to T31 at The Open Championship. He has finished 30th or lower in each of his past four events, with a T5 at the Travelers Championship as his best showing by far in his previous seven tournaments.
Justin Thomas 2024 Tour Championship Betting Outlook
There are two schools of thought here. We can look at the past for Thomas, and itâs always been good at East Lake GC. He rarely misfires, finishing seventh or higher in each of his previous seven Tour Championships. However, he was unable to qualify in 2023, and this year, he limps in with four straight finishes of 30th or worse. Something has been off for JT from early June until now. With the lone exception of the T5 at the Travelers Championship, Thomas has been very ordinary. Past performances aside, he just hasnât been very good lately, and the fact he begins the tournament at even par suggests that you steer clear.
