2024 Tour Championship Odds & Picks: Robert MacIntyre

The PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

It's the final event of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. At stake: the honor of being the FedEx Cup champion and a whole lot of money. The winner of the Tour Championship receives $25 million and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. Second place is worth $12.5 million. Every player in the 30-man field will earn at least $550,000.

The Tour Championship uses a unique "starting strokes" system that rewards players based on the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated so far this season. FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler will start at -10. No. 2 player Xander Schauffele starts at -8, No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama starts at -7, No. 4 Keegan Bradley starts at -6, and No. 5 Ludvig Aberg starts at -5. The rest of the field is sorted into groups of five, with groups starting at -4, -3, -2, -1 and even par. Bear in mind that betting odds for the Tour Championship take the starting strokes system into account.

Let's take a closer look at our top 2024 Tour Championship odds and picks for Robert MacIntyre.

Robert MacIntyre Tour Championship Course History

MacIntyre is a debutant at East Lake GC, as he has completed his first full season on the PGA Tour. Since he ranked T16 in the FedEx Cup standings, he’ll start off with a score of 2 under par. For success at East Lake, you need to be proficient in a few different areas. Strokes gained: putting helps, and the Scot checks off that box with a PGA Tour ranking of 29th. However, in strokes gained: approach, MacIntyre falls well below the field average at 107th. He also leaves a lot to be desired in driving accuracy percentage department, finding the fairway at a 57% rate.

Robert MacIntyre Recent Form

On top of his putting concerns and inaccuracy off of the tee, MacIntyre was forced to withdraw from the BMW Championship in the third round after just nine holes due to a back ailment. It’s uncertain how serious the injury is for the Genesis Scottish Open winner, but it is more than likely not going to force him out of his chance for a giant payday in suburban Atlanta. Prior to the BMW, he was T7 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, while he missed the cut at the Wyndham. He was also T50 at Royal Troon in The Open Championship the last time he was on the big stage, and he wasn’t much of a factor at any point in that major.

Robert MacIntyre 2024 Tour Championship Betting Outlook

The back ailment is a major red flag. Heading into the Tour Championship, the last news blurb you want to see on one of the participants is an injury, even if it’s a minor or nagging one. No one knows the extent of the injury, and perhaps since he was safe to advance to Atlanta, and he wasn’t going to win at Castle Pines anyway, MacIntyre was just playing it safe. But it is still a major concern for bettors, and when you couple that with the fact he is making his debut in this high-profile event, with his erratic driving performances and shaky numbers on the putting surface, we’re not quite screaming stay away from the Scot, but it might be a better idea to look anywhere else.
