2024 Tour Championship Odds & Picks: Sam Burns

The PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

It's the final event of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. At stake: the honor of being the FedEx Cup champion and a whole lot of money. The winner of the Tour Championship receives $25 million and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. Second place is worth $12.5 million. Every player in the 30-man field will earn at least $550,000.

The Tour Championship uses a unique "starting strokes" system that rewards players based on the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated so far this season. FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler will start at -10. No. 2 player Xander Schauffele starts at -8, No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama starts at -7, No. 4 Keegan Bradley starts at -6, and No. 5 Ludvig Aberg starts at -5. The rest of the field is sorted into groups of five, with groups starting at -4, -3, -2, -1 and even par. Bear in mind that betting odds for the Tour Championship take the starting strokes system into account.

Let's take a closer look at our top 2024 Tour Championship odds and picks for Sam Burns.

Sam Burns Tour Championship Course History

Sam Burns is getting comfortable at East Lake. After breaking par just once in his first appearance, the LSU product has been under par in three of four rounds in each of his last two trips to Atlanta, including a pair of 66s to start the week in 2023. With a 67.7 scoring average in the final round, Burns seems to be putting the pieces together at the Tour Championship.

Sam Burns Recent Form

Outside of Xander Schauffele, Burns may be playing the best golf of anyone in the field. A final-round 65 vaulted the eight-year pro into a tie for second last week at the BMW Championship, placing him in the group starting at -4 this week. Burns was second in strokes gained: putting and 11th in strokes gained: approach last week. That’s two consecutive weeks Burns was second-best on the green, which bodes well for his chances this week.

Sam Burns 2024 Tour Championship Betting Outlook

I’m high on Burns this week. The Louisiana native is playing close to home; he’s been here three previous times and played well, and he’s one of the hottest putters on tour. Look for the flatstick to stay hot. If Burns can get the ball in the fairway off the tee, there’s no reason to think he won’t be in the hunt Sunday afternoon. Burns is a great bet for a top-10 finish and worth a serious look in the top-five and outright winner markets.
