The Texas Tech Red Raiders escaped the Sweet 16 against a red-hot Arkansas Razorbacks team. It won't get much easier against one of the best teams in the nation.
The Florida Gators love to push the pace, ranking 61st in pace of play. Texas Tech had pace problems against Arkansas a few nights ago. Despite this, the Red Raiders relied heavily on their defensive ability down the stretch and made key plays when needed.
While Texas Tech may not be able to get the outright win against the Gators, I'd expect them to keep it close. As we get closer to the Final Four, I love taking a shot on teams that slow the pace and play great defense, and that is what the Red Raiders do.
Texas Tech ranks 269th in pace of play and 39th in adjusted defensive efficiency, not to mention they rank fifth in offensive efficiency, led by superstar JT Toppin.
If Texas Tech can slow this game down and play their brand of ball, then they can and pull off the upset. However, if they try and go basket for basket with this Gators team, it is not going to end well. Look for them to establish Toppin down low and get some easy baskets in the paint.
