TCU vs. Texas Picks & Predictions

TCU made history yet again with a 71-62 upset win over Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 Saturday night. A close game throughout, Notre Dame led by one heading into the final period, 52-51. Hailey Van Lith went on to score 12 of her 26 points in the fourth as TCU outscored the Fighting Irish 20-10 to win by nine, 71-62.

It was a solid offensive and defensive effort for the Horned Frogs. They shot 50% from the floor and 41.7% from three-point range while holding Notre Dame to 31.9% and 20%. On defense, they held Hannah Hidalgo to 15 points off 3-19 shooting, with nine points coming from the foul line. They'll need a similar effort to take down Texas and make it the Final Four.

The Longhorns put a lid on Tennessee's volatile offense to just 59 points in their 67-59 win Saturday night. Much like TCU's game, it was a dominant fourth quarter (17-9) that did the trick.

Pick: TCU ML (+280)

TCU vs. Texas Player Props

A Texas offense averaging just under 80 points per game scored just 67 against Tennessee's No. 295-ranked defense in the country. TCU's defense is one of the better in the country (No. 34, 57.5 ppg allowed), and has been playing well. I'm not confident the Texas offense can get the job done against Hailey Van Lith and the TCU defense.

At +280, the TCU moneyline has a lot of value and is worth the risk. But if you want to be cautious, take the points. If Texas wins, it will be a close game.

Van Lith is playing lights out in the Tournament, and I do not have any confidence in the Texas defense stepping up its game and containing her.

Pick: Hailey Van Lith to Score 20+ Points (+140)

No. 2 UConn Huskies (-13.5) vs. No. 1 USC Trojans (+800)

  • Time: 9:00 p.m. EST
  • Coverage: ESPN

This is a game fans were looking forward to when the bracket was announced. A little of the shine has come off the game with JuJu Watkins out after injuring her knee. But the Trojans have managed without her, destroying Mississippi State 96-59 and handling Kansas State 67-61.

What is most impressive is how they did it. Against the Bulldogs, USC's other star, Kiki Iriafen, stepped up with 36 points and nine boards. But against a tougher Wildcats team, it was more of a team effort, with three players other than Iriafen scoring double digits.  But facing a team like UConn without Watkins is something else entirely.

The Huskies have been one of the best teams in the country all season. They have the No. 1 defense in the country (51.5 ppg allowed) and a top ten offense that averages 80+ points per game. Paige Bueckers may not have played well enough to win the Wooden Award this season. However, she is still widely regarded as one of the best players in the country.

It's a big spread for a game between two really good teams. But it is one thing to overcome the odds to beat a K-State squad and something else entirely to do it against a team like the Huskies. USC will make a game of it, but the Huskies will pull away in the second and cover the spread.

Pick: UConn -13.5 (-110)
