Anytime Touchdown Scorer Odds & Picks: Super Bowl (49ers vs. Chiefs)

Super Bowl LVIII is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we’ll peruse the touchdown scorer props with a little over a week to go before the big game.

We won’t have to worry about any wind or rain affecting the passing game with the game indoors, so that helps. Both of these teams should be airing it out. So, will that mean the receivers and/or tight ends have an advantage in the touchdown scorer props? We’ll see. The Over has cashed in five of the previous seven Super Bowls indoors, so we are likely to see a big score in the game, so there should be a lot to choose from. Let’s get started.

Super Bowl LVIII: Early Touchdown Prop Picks & Predictions

Anytime Scorers

Looking at the Touchdown Scorers market, there is virtually no value betting 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (-220) as an Anytime Scorer, as you would need to risk more than two times your potential return. However, on the other side, I actually like Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (-140) to get into the end zone. The Detroit Lions scored three rushing touchdowns in the first half against the 49ers, and it was actually three different scorers doing the job. Pacheco has a more than good chance of scoring in this game.

It’s a little surprising that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (+100) is even-money as an Anytime Scorer, too. He kicked off the scoring in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, and he had the team’s first touchdown to level the score at 7-7 in last season’s Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles. Oh, and he also scored in Super LIV against the 49ers back on Feb. 2, 2020.

If you’re looking for a long-shot Anytime Scorer, though, take a look at 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk (+1000). He hauled in a 15-yard scoring strike from Jimmy Garoppolo against the Chiefs in SBLIV in 2020. If you’re a little wishy-washy, and not willing to roll the dice on the fullback, but still want someone not named CMC on the Niners, I mean, wide receiver Deebo Samuel (+145) had 12 total touchdowns (five rushing, seven receiving) in 15 regular-season games, and at plus-money, he is an attractive play.

Lastly, we have Mr. Irrelevant, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy making his first Super Bowl start. Could the lights shine too bright, and might he coaxed into a miscue which leads to a Kansas City Chiefs defensive touchdown (+750). I actually like that a little more than the Juszczyk roll of the dice, to be honest.

Best play: Deebo Samuel (+145)
Best long-shot play: Kansas City Chiefs Defensive TD (+750)

First Touchdown Scorer Combo

I am normally not a huge proponent of betting the first TD scorer of the game. It’s a needle in the haystack situation normally. However, there’s a tremendous chance it is McCaffrey of the 49ers, and at +350, I’d certainly roll the dice on that.

However, if you’re a little more conservative, and would like some insurance, FanDuel is offering First Touchdown Scorer Combos. I love the McCaffrey or Pacheco (+180) chalk on this prop, for a chance to nearly double up. If CMC or Pacheco find the end zone for the game’s first touchdown, you win. It seems like a no-brainer, although, of course, we have the likes of Kelce, Samuel, Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and tight end George Kittle also lurking in the weeds. Still, I don’t think there are a huge array of potential scorers. It’s certainly a list which is in the single digits.

Others combinations which make some sense, especially involving the 49ers scoring machine back are McCaffrey or Kelce (+210), McCaffrey or Rice (+240), McCaffrey or Kittle (+240), McCaffrey or Aiyuk (+240) and McCaffrey or Samuel (+240). You pick and choose, based on which team you’re betting, etc. I think the best bet is McCaffrey and Pacheco, however, as a rushing touchdown gets the job done first.

If you’re leaning heavily toward the Chiefs, and their championship experience, perhaps Pacheco or Kelce (+280) is a little more attractive to you. However, if you’re on Kansas City, I’d suggest Rice or Kelce (+420) for a chance to more than quadruple up.

Best play: McCaffrey or Pacheco (+180)
Best long-shot play: Rice or Kelce (+420)

Other Touchdown Props

There is a laundry list of things I love about Super Bowl props. The list is extensive, and I often go to the sportsbook and have to bring a laptop and literally log all of my tickets onto an Excel spreadsheet to keep track, especially once the beers start flowing. I mean, the uh, soft drinks. For the Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals, I watched the game at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, and I had made 93 separate wagers and/or prop bets for the weekend, and 105 if you counted the UFC pay-per-view that was going on that weekend. And, yes, the total was 129 separate tickets if you threw in the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing. You’ve never lived until you’ve made a few skeleton and women’s curling wagers.

McCaffrey Method of First TD: Rushing TD (+100): This one seems to be a slam-dunk. Buddy is going to be hype playing in his first-ever Super Bowl after withering away for years with the Carolina Panthers. He scored 14 regular-season rushing touchdowns in 16 games, and four rushing scores in two playoff games. Even-money seems like a good bet. If you’re a little more adventurous, you might want to take a shot on Receiving TD (+500) as his first touchdown. He did haul in seven scores through the air in the regular season. I am just letting you know what’s available, but not suggesting that one for my plays.

Kelce Anytime 2nd Half TD (+240): Kelce’s touchdown in SBLIV against the Niners in the fourth quarter kicked off 21 unanswered points by Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs, which erased a 20-10 deficit and led to a 31-20 win. In this season’s playoffs, his three touchdowns came in the 1Q, 2Q and 3Q - so there is risk. But that’s why they call it gambling, son! In the regular season, he had two scores in the second quarter, and three in the third quarter. So, for a chance to more than double up, this is a solid play, as far as I am concerned.
