Big3 Basketball Best Bets

Here are our best bets for this week of Big3 basketball action.

Trilogy vs. Triplets

Can Trilogy ride the duo of Earl Clark and Isaiah Briscoe all the way to the postseason? In Trilogy’s Week 1 win, Clark and Briscoe combined for 46 of Trilogy’s 52 points. They also had seven of the team’s nine assists and 15 of the team’s 18 rebounds. This week, they face Triplets, a team that looked very disappointing against Bivouac. Joe Johnson was the only player to score in double figures, as he put up 29 of the team’s 47 points. Both of these teams need someone else to step up, and it’s hard to trust either of them after their Week 1 performances. Therefore, we’re going to play the under. These teams have very few scorers, and that is going to keep this one close and low-scoring.

Pick: Under 93.5 (-115)

-Phil Wood

Power vs. Tri-State

Power convincingly took down 3 Headed Monsters in Week 1 of the season. Power held 3 Headed Monsters to just 16 points in the first half, as they opened up a nine-point lead at the break. All five Power players scored at least six points, which shows just how deep they are this season. So why is this spread so small? Because Tri-State is a solid opponent led by Jason Richarson and Devin Ebanks. Richardson had 19 points, and Ebanks had 17 in their Week 1 win over Killer 3’s. Tri-State looks like they are the real deal this season, and they definitely have the ability to spring an upset in this one. However, we think you should take the points because the moneyline doesn’t offer much value.

Pick: Tri-State +2.5 (-115)

-Phil Wood

Ball Hogs vs. Enemies

Ball Hogs were the only team to win by double digits in Week 1, as they took down Aliens 50-39. The question is: are Ball Hogs that good or are Aliens just that bad? The good news for Ball Hogs is it really doesn’t matter heading into Week 2. They will take on Enemies, a team that lost 52-46 in Week 1, and is now 3-10 in their last 13 games. Jordan Crawford did have 22 points in that game, but defensively Enemies couldn’t stop Earl Clark or Isaiah Briscoe. That bodes well for Jodie Meeks and Leandro Barbosa who scored 23 and 16, respectively, in their first game. At 2.5, this spread is not big enough.

Pick: Ball Hogs -2.5 (-115)

-Phil Wood

3’s Company vs. Killer 3’s

A lot of bettors are going to love betting on 3’s Company. They’ve got a lot of household names. But they also just lost their first game to the Ghost Ballers. 3’s Company got 21 points from Michael Beasley but only 20 points combined from Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers. They started the game hot but couldn’t find much offense in the second half against the Ghost Ballers. Meanwhile, they’ll take on the Killer 3’s, who also lost their first game of the season against Tri-State. The Killer 3’s got 17 points from Franklin Session, but no other player scored more than four baskets. Session is ultimately their entire team. He needs more help and likely won’t get it against a group of former NBA stars.

Pick: 3’s Company ML (-115)

-Jason Radowitz

Ghost Ballers vs. Aliens

The Ghost Ballers came alive in the second half of their game against 3’s Company. Mike Taylor led the team with 19 points. However, Jonathan Simmons added 16 points and ten rebounds. Darnell Jackson even added ten rebounds. The Ghost Ballers will be terrific on the glass this tournament but won’t be great from three after hitting only four threes in their Week 1 win. They’ll take on the Aliens, who added just 39 points in their loss against the Ball Hogs. The Aliens have a lot of depth, including Will Bynum and Alonzo Gee. But it was mainly the international players that got minutes in their loss. Only Janis Timma was money from three. The rest of the team struggled to find much offense. Therefore, I’m backing the Under 95.5 in this matchup.

Pick: Under 95.5 (-115)

3 Headed Monsters vs. Bivouac

The 3 Headed Monsters don’t have any depth. They’re rolling with Kevin Murphy, Reggie Evans, and Rashard Lewis for most of the game. The team started their first game slowly, adding only 16 points in the first half. They scored 27 points in the second half but still lost to Power, 50-43, despite winning the second half, 27-25. Evans is going to be a monster on the glass. But the offense lacked three-point ability. On the other hand, Bivouac added a 51-47 win over the Triplets last week. Gerald and Garlon Green added a combined 35 points with 14 rebounds. Bivouac has Corey Brewer and Ryan Hollins getting significant minutes too. This team is capable from downtown, moved the ball around plenty, and all four players added at least four rebounds each. The defense couldn’t stop Joe Johnson in Week 1, but Kevin Murphy, Reggie Evans, and Rashard Lewis won’t be able to do what Johnson did. I’m taking Bivouac to earn another victory.

Pick: Bivouac ML (+125)
