British Open 2022: Bryson DeChambeau Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction
The British Open returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews for the first time since 2015, when Zach Johnson hoisted the Claret Jug after a four-hole playoff against Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman. What better place for the 150th Open Championship than the cradle of golf?
This is the yearâs final major, and itâs not hyperbole to say that it could be one of the most consequential majors in history. The professional golf world has been riven by the formation of the controversial new LIV Tour, which has lured some top players away from the PGA Tour with lavish appearance fees. With members of the two tours exchanging verbal barbs through the media, a major involving players from both tours has an extra layer of drama.
This could also be the final time that Tiger Woods plays in a British Open at St. Andrews. Two of his three British Open wins have come at the Old Course, in 2000 and 2005. Can Tiger contend here again at age 46?
The course itself will play a starring role, too. The Road Hole, the Swilcan Burn, Principalâs Nose, the Coffin bunkers, the Hell bunker, the double greens - these iconic features will provide a marvelous stage for the worldâs best players. Mother Nature is sure to be a factor as well. The Old Course can be a pushover if the wind doesnât blow, but it can be a hellscape if the weather is truly Scottish, with plenty of wind and perhaps some rain.

Bryson DeChambeau British Open History
Brysonâs best finish in four starts at the British Open was 33rd last year at Royal St. Georgeâs GC. That finish is deceiving, as he was never in contention and closed with a final-round 65 to move up the leaderboard. While he has not played an Open Championship at the Old Course, DeChambeau has lost over four strokes total to the field on similar links-style courses across his four starts.
Bryson DeChambeauâs Recent Form
DeChambeau has not had a top 20 on the PGA tour in 2022 across his six starts. Coming off of wrist surgery in April, he had an MC at The Memorial and finished 56th at the U.S. Open in June. DeChambeau lost close to 10 strokes to the field across the two tournaments before moving to LIV Golf. He finished 10th out of 48 players in his first start on the LIV Golf tour.
Bryson DeChambeau British Open Prediction
I expect DeChambeau to miss the cut this week as he continues to work his way back from injury. While his 10th-place finish on the LIV Tour provides encouragement, he does not have good form on British Open links-style courses. On top of that, DeChambeau has lost over five strokes to the field in three of his last four measured events on the PGA Tour.
