2023 NFL Hall of Fame Game Odds & Picks

Here are our top picks and predictions for Thursday’s NFL Hall of Fame Game.

Browns vs. Jets Picks & Predictions

All I have to say is under, under, under. The NFL Hall of Fame Game is always highly anticipated because it’s the first time we get to see live, actual football since February. And then the game starts, and it turns out to be one of the ugliest games of the preseason. Hardly any starters play in this bonus preseason game, and if they do it’s for a drive at most. Sportsbooks have wised up to this, which explains the insanely low total by NFL standards. But keep in mind that the last 10 Hall of Fame games have averaged 29.3 points and the under has gone 5-2 in the last seven editions. As for a side, I lean Jets +1.5, as we could see a motivated Zach Wilson start the game at quarterback and last year’s preseason hero Chris Streveler take over later on. The Jets should hold the QB depth advantage over Cleveland, who will likely use Joshua Dobbs, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson and perhaps Kellen Mond under center.

Picks: Under 33 / Jets -1.5

–Matt Barbato

  • Coach’s Preseason Record: Matt pointed to Jets head coach Robert Saleh’s preseason record, which stands at 6-0 straight up and 5-1 ATS (against the spread), as a significant factor. The fact that certain coaches, like Saleh, care about preseason results and that the Jets have attracted attention and scrutiny made him lean toward the Jets.
  • Betting Strategy: Matt’s official bet was to take the Jets at minus one and a half for 1.1 units. He also saw value in taking the Jets to win the Hall of Fame Game. He even mentioned teasing the game but refrained from making that his official recommendation.
  • Additional Thoughts: He also presented various other betting strategies and opportunities for the game, including using a same-game teaser and considering the over or under, though his official pick was on the Jets with the spread.

Pick: Jets -1.5
