Cameron Young 2023 British Open Odds, Picks & Predictions
Itâs homecoming week for Rory McIlroy at the British Open.
Well, not exactly. McIlroy is a native of Northern Ireland and currently resides in Jupiter, Florida. This year's British Open (or "Open Championship," if you're a purist) is being held at Royal Liverpool (aka "Hoylake") in Wirral, England.
But McIlroy hoisted the Claret Jug the last time the Open was held at Royal Liverpool, besting Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia by two shots in 2014, and he returns nine years later as the betting favorite.
Who could have imagined that Rory would go nine years without winning a major? He won both the Open and the PGA Championship in 2014 â his third and fourth major championships. He was only 25 at the time.
Can Rory end the majors drought at a course where he's tasted victory before? It won't be easy, as world No. 1-ranked player Scottie Scheffler, 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm and 2023 PGA champ Brooks Koepka all have designs on the Jug.
Fans of true links golf and the creative shotmaking it requires should be excited about the Open Championship's return to Hoylake. The course will be firm and fast, and we'll see a lot of players landing their approach shots in front of the green and bouncing the ball onto the putting surface.
McIlroy posted a winning score of -17 in 2014. Tiger Woods finished at -18 when he won the Open at Hoylake in 2006. But if the wind howls, we could easily see a winning score in the neighborhood of -7 or -8.
The British Open champion is granted the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. Let's take a closer look at some of the players vying for that honor.

Cameron Young 2023 British Open Betting Outlook
Cameron Young made a big splash in his Open debut in 2022 at St. Andrews. He opened the week with a 64 before firing a 65 on Sunday to put some pressure on Cameron Smith and Rory Mcilroy. Young ultimately finished second by one stroke. Heâll look to keep it going this year despite some inconsistent play of late. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and The Memorial, finished outside of the top 30 at the US Open, and finished T60 at the Travelers. We know of Youngâs power off the tee (third in driving distance and 12th on Tour in strokes gained off the tee), but his approach game has been much improved, as heâs 330th in greens in regulation %. He still needs work around the green, as heâs 170th in scrambling and 175th in strokes gained: putting. Can Youngâs driver carry him yet again, or will his short game prove costly this time around at The Open?
Cameron Young 2023 British Open Betting Advice
Young has the talent to win a major. However, I donât see him being in the final pairing and winning outright at Royal Liverpool. Iâll be looking to play a top-10 bet at a good price or a top-20 bet at plus odds.
