Champions League Quarter-Final Preview & Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Borussia Dortmund (+115) vs. Atletico Madrid (+225), DRAW (+275) | O/U 2.5 (-155/+125)

Atletico Madrid jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the aggregate thanks to early goals from Rodrigo De Paul (4') and Samuel Lino (32'). Borussia Dortmund battled back to salvage a goal as Sebastien Haller netted an 81st-minute tally. The series shifts back to Deutschland on Tuesday, and we have a 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff from Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.

I think this quarter-final match is far from over, as Dortmund returns home to play in front of its home crowd. They've done a great job controlling games throughout the Champions League season, out-scoring their opposition 11-7. At home, the BVB have out-scored their UCL competition 4-1 while posting a 2-2-0 record.

They'll host an Atletico Madrid squad that has recently struggled on the road. Over their last seven road matches across all competitions, Atletico is a mere 1-2-4, averaging only 0.7 goals per match. I don't anticipate the Spanish side finding much offensive success on the road in this one, and I expect Dortmund to be winning after the first 90 minutes.

Bet: Dortmund Moneyline (+115)

Manchester City (-160) vs. Real Madrid (+425), DRAW (+340) | O/U 2.5 (-175/+140)

It was a wild first leg in Madrid last week that saw six combined goals in a 3-3 draw. The reigning champions return home on Wednesday, where they'll look to put away 14-time UCL champion Real Madrid. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET from Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.

These are two of the top offenses in the world, and that's carried over to the Champions League, where City leads the league in scoring (27 goals), while Real Madrid is in second (21 goals). With so much offensive skill on the pitch, it leads me to believe that there's a high variance level that will come with this contest, unlike the Dortmund game, where they'll be leaning on their fortified defense as they attempt to win a low-scoring match.

With that said, I think it's worth laying the juice to get a full 1.0 goals with Real Madrid on the road. They have a ton of offensive talent and plenty of UCL experience, so I think they'll be able to keep this game close, if not push for a draw or outright victory. Vinícius Júnior is one of the most clutch Champions League players I've seen recently, and he's up to 18 UCL goals and 20 UCL assists throughout his career. I think Viní and Jude Bellingham (four UCL goals this year), give City a run for their money on Wednesday afternoon.

Bet: Real Madrid +1.0 (-130)

Bayern Munich (+135) vs. Arsenal (+190), DRAW (+270) | O/U 2.5 (-155/+125)

The other Wednesday match pits Bayern Munich against Arsenal. The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw, thanks to a late Leandro Trossard goal (72') to salvage the tie for the Gunners. The second leg kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET from Allianz Arena in Munich.

Arsenal's lack of Champions League experience was on display in the first leg, where they appeared to have the jitters at times throughout. Bayern, on the other hand, has plenty of experienced players from their 2020 championship run (and even a couple from the 2013 championship), and they looked poised throughout the match.

Now, the series shifts back to a hostile Allianz Arena, which is one of the tougher places to play on the European continent. Over their last seven home matches across all competitions, the German giant is 6-0-1 while out-scoring their opposition 19-5. That includes four clean sheets, most notably the 3-0 demolition of Lazio in the Round of 16 second leg. Give me the experienced Bayern Munich to take care of business on Wednesday and advance to the semis.

Bet: Bayern Munich To Advance (-140)
