Champions League Round of 16 Preview & Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Arsenal (-450) vs. Porto (+1100), DRAW (+600) | O/U 2.5 (-180/+140)
Porto carries a 1-0 lead into the second leg thanks to a late 90' + 4' goal at home from Galeno in the opener. Despite the 1-0 deficit, Arsenal's a sizable -295 favorite to come back and advance to the quarters, while Porto's +225. Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET from Emirates Stadium in London, England.
Getting 1.75 goals at "coin flip odds" seems like a no-brainer to me on Tuesday. Sure, Arsenal should win this game, but do we really think Porto will roll over and take a beatdown? I don't think so. First off, they didn't allow a single shot on goal in the opening match. The shutout was Porto's fourth in their last six matches, where they're 5-1-0 over the six contests (across all competitions). The Portuguese side has out-scored its opposition 14-2 over those six matches!
Sérgio Conceição and his Dragonsâ offense is fierce and has the weapons to score on anybody. They racked up 15 goals in the group stage, and they boast the fourth-best offense on the domestic front (46 goals in 25 matches). If they can manage one goal, I think we can cash this bet. Let's take a flier on the visitors.
Bet: Porto +1.75 (-105)
Barcelona (-115) vs. Napoli (+310), DRAW (+285) | O/U 2.5 (-145/+115)
The second match on Tuesday afternoon pits Barcelona against Napoli, and this aggregate is tied at one goal apiece. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET from Estadi OlÃmpic LluÃs Companys in Barcelona, Spain.
It was none other than Robert Lewandowski (60') who scored for Barca in the opening match of this aggregate. It marked his second goal this UCL campaign and his 93rd overall in Champions League action! With an experienced finisher like Lewandowski on the pitch, I have to side with him and Barcelona to win this game in regulation.
From a team level, the Spanish side has posted three consecutive clean sheets since the 1-1 draw in Napoli last month. They've out-scored the domestic opposition 5-0 over those three matches. If you were to point to any weakness for the Italians, it'd be their offense. They managed just 10 goals through the group stage and only have 43 goals in 28 Serie A matches this season. This should be a low-scoring contest, and I think Barcelona has the edge in offensive talent, so I'll take them to get it done in regulation.
Bet: Barcelona Moneyline (-115)
Borussia Dortmund (+110) vs. PSV Eindhoven (+220), DRAW (+285) | O/U 3.5 (+140/-175)
Wednesday's slate features a pair of games, as Atletico returns home to take on Inter (1-0 Inter), while Dortmund hosts PSV Eindhoven (1-1). This contest is set for 4:00 p.m. ET from Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.
Eindhoven has been able to score at will in the Eredivisie, amassing 80 goals over 25 matches. However, their offense hasnât been nearly as impressive when they've stepped up to the big leagues in the Champions League. They scored just eight group-stage goals over six matches, and their lone goal this aggregate came via penalty kick.
With Dortmund returning to their hostile home arena, I expect them to advance on Wednesday. I'll take a flier on them at +110 to get it done within the first 90 minutes. The BVB have been sharp at home this UCL term, allowing just one goal over three home matches. Additionally, they've only allowed five total goals over seven matches in this year's Champions League action. Let me remind everyone that they came out of the vaunted Group F, which featured PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle. This team has plenty of talent on the pitch, and they should have no issue burying this Dutch side in Germany on Wednesday. Let's roll with Dortmund on the moneyline.
Bet: Borussia Dortmund Moneyline (+110)
