Today’s Best College Basketball Bets

Here are my best bets for today's men's college basketball slate.

Purdue at Michigan State

Despite their 16-1 record, Purdue has had some close calls with single-possession wins over Nebraska and Michigan State, both coming on the road. Only one of Michigan State's five losses has come at home, with Tom Izzo and Co. repping the ninth most difficult strength of schedule in the nation.

Both teams rarely force turnovers, ranking in the bottom 330 in the nation at doing so. This will be a slow, methodical game that will heavily lean on coaching rather than pure talent due to my prediction that both teams with be able to run what they want in the half-court.

If that's the case, how can you not take Tom Izzo's side? Three of the last four games between these two teams in East Lansing have come down to one possession. Is anyone interested in a little overtime?

Play: Michigan State +2.5 (-104)

Florida Atlantic at Western Kentucky

You may be thinking, why are you writing about FAU vs. Western Kentucky? Well, Florida Atlantic won't be under the radar all that long. They are a force to be reckoned with.

The Owls sit at 16-1 with five wins over KenPom top-100-ranked teams, earning them a cool 4-1 record between Quad I and Quad II opponents. Dusty May has done a solid job coaching, setting up pristine offensive sets as FAU's Rim & 3 Rate sits at 86 percent, the 14th highest in the nation.

Their efficient offense is backed by their 23rd-ranked shooting percentage from beyond the arc, where they get 38 percent of their points, also ranked 23rd highest in the nation. This bodes well for facing Western Kentucky, a team that ranks 267th in three-point defense. FAU does a fantastic job at limiting transition and second-chance points as well, so WKU will have to be incredibly efficient if they want to keep up.

The Owls boast the best record ATS in the nation at 11-3-1, so I'm going to keep riding that wave until proven otherwise.

Play: FAU -3.5 (-118)

Other Picks:

  • Harvard -10.5
  • Florida A&M -1.5
  • Delaware +3.0
  • Cleveland State +5.5
  • Arkansas Pine Bluff +1.5
  • UC Riverside -7.5
  • UC Irvine -3.5
  • Montana State -8.0
